Excellent book. A very sad story. Heavy on jewishness but nevertheless an excellent read.

What I appreciate about this book is that it allows the reader to understand the power of the situation which influenced Franz Stangl to become commandant of Treblinka, one of the largest of five Nazi extermination camps. Social psychology teaches "you can't be a sweet cucumber in a vinegar barrel"(Dr. Zimbardo, 2005). As long as we keep looking for explanations of terrible acts through what is known as the dispositional perspective, we will not be able to prevent situations from being created in which ordinary people become capable of doing horrific things.
