Aluminim oxidizes!
These are a replacement for the shoes supplied by the manufacturer. With only 6,000 miles on the 1981 Kawasaki, the bike remained parked for many years. I went through the motorcycle with a "fine toothed comb" and discovered the brake shoes had shed their linings due to oxidation of the aluminum. the agent had nothing to hold onto. (One was loose upon disassembly, but the other fell apart when it was dropped on the floor.)

Pads were there but no springs
Every time I've bought brake shoes they came with new springs. Not this time.
