Solar Diver. Modern Interpretation of the 1982 Hybrid Diver's Watch. Follows ISO standards and is suitable for scuba diving. LumiBrite hands and markers. Silicone strap. Lightweight matte Black case. Screwdown crown, pushers, and caseback.
Excellent re-issue of an iconic watch, that improves on the original in a number of ways. The fact that this is solar powered means that you get quartz accuracy, but without the need to replace the battery. You get a few different bonuses, including (1) an alarm (2) dual time zone functionality, (3) day/date/year, and (4) a stopwatch. Along with 200m of water resistance, this watch is a very rugged all-purpose watch and excellent value for money by its own merits. The other reason you might buy this watch, is that it is a reissue of the model that Arnold Schwarzenegger wore in movies such as Commando and Predator. Normally I wouldn't all the watch 'stylish' per se, but rugged utilitarianism does have its own aesthetic appeal which is enhanced by the history of this piece. The rubber band is surprisingly comfortable (I have a lot of arm hair and have not had great experiences) and the lugs don't dig into your arm even though they protrude quite a bit. I've never measured my wrist, but the watch does sit comfortably without seeming excessive. I would say it probably wears fine unless you have a noticeably thin wrist. The 120-click bezel has a good feel to it, although that's only compared with other seikos. I would be willing to bet it doesn't stand up well to watches in the >$1k range, but then again it isn't supposed to. It really does have its own thing going on, and if you appreciate that then you'll appreciate this watch. Kind of hard to compare it against anything else out there.Read full review
Iconic watch. Very cool. Downside: The metal band that keeps the strap in place is uncomfortable, it has sharp edges on it. I have a big wrist and it fits fine. Is it big? On an average size wrist, I'm sure it will look fabulous, but on my wrist, it looks rather small.
I have some old screen protectors for phones lying in a drawer, so I cut one out to fit my watch face to help protect the it.
I do find it a bit discerning that it is made in China, and I would not have bought it had I noticed that.
I first bought my Arnie Seiko back in 1989. I still have my original Arnie, and this new one looks so much like the original watch .. my Arnie went up in value for sure . Great investment on the new one as well!! Looks awesome 👏.
This Watch Will Help You Get To The Choppa On Time
I have always owned Seiko watches since they first became available. The watches are reasonably priced and very well made. The Arnie reissued solar is no exception. It is a great watch for diving or casual wear.It is not heavy and looks great on the wrist. You cannot go wrong with the Arnie reissue.
This is a relaunch of the Seiko H558 seen on the wrist of Arnold Schwarzenegger most notably in the movie The Predator. The watch has a cool look and was futuristic for the time period (mid-late 1980s) but was outdated and plain, as it was an analog-digital quartz watch. This newer version is a fresh take. While not mechanical, it uses Seiko’s proprietary solar H851 movement which apparently hold a whopping 6-month power reserve when fully charged. It is part of the Prospex lineup, and boasts a 200m water resistance. The watch does come in rather large, however the long pushers and short lugs make it wear more like a 43-45mm war here. The best thing is the bracelet. I have not found a rubber strap even close to this in comfort.
