As your headlights assemblies age, turning into a fuzzy yellow mess, you have two basic options: Polish/clean them Replace them If you're fine with cleaning yourself, and don't plan to keep the car for more than a year or two, that might be the better option. Depending on environment, the lights will need to be re-done once or twice a year. However, if you plan to keep the car for a few years, it becomes economical to replace the headlight assemblies. In the case of my Crown Victoria, the car was about 12 years old before the headlights started to become dangerously dim. For around the cost of 5-6 professional cleanings, I obtained a new left and right headlight assembly, and replaced them. If I keep the car for 3 or 4 more years, it will have been money well spent.
