Product Information

Designed as a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, Bravely Default offers gamers a classically styled RPG with a few twists on traditional turn-based combat. Players take control of a quartet of heroes as they go on a quest to reunite powerful elemental crystals, exploring dungeons and engaging in battles along the way. Each character has a set of BP points for use during combat, and players can use the Default command to shield themselves and bank points for the next round, or the Brave command to do extra damage by moving twice in one turn.

There are 24 job classes from which to choose, including White Mage, Thief, Pirate, and Vampire, and characters gain new skills and level up their abilities as they engage in combat. Gamers learn more about each character as the story progresses thanks to animated interludes and augmented reality scenes that are accessible when pointing the 3DS cameras at special cards. Bravely Default also includes mini-game in which players help rebuild the demolished village of Norende by connecting with others via StreetPass or the Internet to help increase the population of the town.

  • Great Old School RPG

This is a great game for anyone who loves old school Japanese RPG's. They went back and used the great Job/Support Job system from games like Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Tactics. At the same time they improved the basic old school combat using the Brave and Default system. Basically Default means you "guard" for half damage, but you also get a Brave Point to use on a later turn. On other turns you can spend Brave Points to get extra actions (up to 4 per turn). This method of storing actions makes the combat a lot more interesting than a game like Final Fantasy V. So basically they kept in all the stuff you love from old school RPG's, and they improved gameplay where it needed it. There are a ton of other features to this game too, and it is a BIG game that will take a long time to complete. You really get your money's worth.

  • Fantastic Gem from Square Enix

Short and to the point, when I started up this game I felt a wave of emotion come over me that drew me into a world presented in a way I had not felt since probably the first hour or so of playing Final Fantasy 9. The job system is deep, the combat is as frequent or in-frequent as you choose and the characters are very fleshed out. The dialogue is witty and clever despite some familiar tropes present in jrpgs. There is a wall of sorts with the pacing at about chapter 5, but if you are like me and enjoy the combat and unique brave/default system you will get through it just fine. I Recommend this highly to those who enjoyed the last great RPG's square produced in the late 90s and early 2000s. The game is out of print so if you were on the fence you may want to reach out and procure a copy soon before they become even more scarce.

  • Best JRPG in years

With compelling gameplay, a good, solid story and excellent battle mechanics, this game is a gem like few others. I would recommend this to any RPG fan, or even to people interested in the genre. The unique use of job classes mixed with combining traits and abilities and exp. Scaling make it a sweet reward by end game. 10/10

  • 30 hours in an addictive game

I never played the original final fantasies all that much, which probably helped me enjoy this even more. It's a traditional rpg but also inventive. The difficulty is nice and high and there are interesting systems unique to this game that don't feel unnatural or tacked on. The design and writing is self aware and well done. I love this game and am happy I have Bravely Second to tackle next. I recommend playing on Hard for the most satisfying experience.

  • Old school turn based!

This is an old scroll turn based rpg but with updated new graphics. The story isn’t anything “new” as far as final fantasy games go. Yes, this is a final fantasy, just with a weird name. It’s a kind of sequel to four heroes of light. So if you are familiar with the older FF games you will fit right in. It is kind of long. About the time you think it’s all over, it keeps going and gets harder. So you need to be committed.

  • Best Rpg in years

I love Rpg's and with this, it's almost like the old square is back to making some of their classics just brought to the 3ds. Every aspect of the game feels great and is improved with some street pass and time passing mechanics that help players along even when they aren't playing it. The price always being so high is my only gripe and it's a shame such a wonderful title can't be more affordable

  • Worth the wait

I originally purchased this in anticipation of Bravely Default II being released for Nintendo Switch soon. So far I do not regret the purchase and welcome this game's seemingly adaptive level spikes and difficulty. As far as the game itself is concerned, while it still adheres to the Crystal storyline made popular by Final Fantasy, it is an enjoyable alternative to FF and I look forward to the grind
