This is a great, great game. The graphics are obviously primitive compared to later versions of the game, but it is a lot of fun to play and has numerous improvements from the earlier version. Once you get the timing down it becomes easy to score, but shootouts are a lot more fun than 1-0 games, right? There is internal memory, so you can save playoff trees forever and never have to worry about replacing a battery on the inside. One fun/funny aspect, is if you knock a player out in a fight, a spurt of blood comes out of their head and they stagger and wobble back to the bench. Primitive? Yes. Fun? You better believe it!

This game is just plain fun. I’ve wasted so many late drunken nights playing this game with my buddies. HOUSE GROUND RULES: Teams are picked in a “blind roulette” fashion and the defense must become goalie when opponent is in their offensive zone. 5 minute periods. Fairly realistic scoring.

This is still one of the best, if not the best, video game ice hockey simulations at the time of writing (January 2012). The one problem with this is that the violence was taken out by omitting blood from head injuries and the fights (that were present in the previous version). However, the fights could be a factor in breaking up gameplay in the 1993 game and their omission is seen by many as a plus for this reason. I have played the SNES version and feel that this MD version is better as the controls seem more fluid, as seems the gameplay. I have played in leagues with this over the years and once people start playing it can take over their lives if there is a competitive atmosphere present such as a league. There is a version of this in PS2 NHL 06 and it also can be played in 60Hz mode on PC by downloading an emulator via NHL.com. I have been playing on and off on this for about 15 years and its still great, even though many will mock the now basic graphics. The artificial intelligence of the teams remains second to none, as does a face to face battle when the selected teams balance individual abilities. Buy it and try it - you won't be disappointed.Read full review
I used to play this game when I was much younger. I was given the new min system and decided to get the only game I ever really played. The game was in very good shape, especially for it's age. It plays fine and thank you!

When nhl 94 people were expecting some great, but no one knew how great it would turn out to be. It's the first hockey game to have one timers, real players and teams names, it also had cool card stats that showed how many goals and assists you got with any player in the game during one game. I would try beat my record, I beleive it was with Pierrre Turgeon I scored 11 goals in a 5 minutes game...awww good times. I sold it years ago, but always regreted it so I rebought it on ebay! 10/10
