Durable drive, well made, and (especially) very fast compared to hard disks. Some operations on the SSD ran thousands of times faster (no exaggeration) than with the hard drive. (For example: Running CCleaner on macOS on the hard drive took over 227,000 + 314,000 = 541,000 seconds (that's over 150 HOURS, over 6.25 days) on the factory hard drive on a MacBook mid-2012. The SSD did the same task in 46 + 103 = 149 seconds (almost 2.5 minutes), or over 3600 TIMES faster. Ten minute boot ups became 35 second boot ups. The Mac beachball and swirl pointers used to be common, now they almost never appear. Transfer rates in some cases were indicated to be as high as 122 MB/sec on the mid-2012 MacBook. Also, no mechanical parts, no concerns over moving the Mac around when using it (a concern with mechanical hard disks where simply quickly moving the MacBook can damage the drive's head, platter, and bearings). Also, no heat from the SSD, and the battery endurance is about 30% longer with moderate loads and display brightness. I wish I upgraded to this years ago.Read full review

The end result was that the dual-core desktop boot-up time was reduced from a consistent 2-minutes and 32-seconds using the original hard-drive, down to a mere 36-seconds when booted using the newly-cloned solid-state drive (SSD) upon migrating it into the physical position of the original hard-drive. There were other minor operating system response time improvements. The marked performance improvements of the various software applications running on the operating system were brought about by doubling the computer's RAM, which was the second part of the enhancements for the targeted computer. The PNY offering, consisting of the SSD itself plus the interface cable (needed when cloning the original drive's content to the SSD via a USB port on the computer), is an excellent way to deploy the product. The cloning software, which needs to be downloaded, is only part of the software package; it also includes several other drive-related utilities. The interface cable can still be used afterwards when reading/writing to loose laptop hard-drives via one of the computer's USB ports. So all together, the 'kit' makes for a compelling value. For those preferring to click their way through the cloning process emboldened by blind intuition alone, rather than consulting the instructions in the accompanying downloadable user manual, be advised to first view on-line video tutorials that feature implementations via this 'kit'.Read full review

Other than the lack of any instructions in the package, which are required in order to actually accomplish the transfer, I'm happy. I resolved this by downloading the software from the Acronis website, and finding the instructions on the PNY website. The fact that it comes with a serial number for the Acronis software was more than I'd hoped for, and that I could transfer everything, including the boot sector, from my old drive to my PNY 1TB SATA 3 SSD using the software and the provided cable (which includes LED indicators) makes it an amazing deal! Although the website indicated that the SATA 3 SSD might not work with my SATA 1 port, I have had no problems whatsoever, which allowed me to double my storage space and be rid of the problem of an almost full drive because of programs. Thus, there is more virtual memory and my computer is more stable and faster. I'm quite pleased and I hope that it'll last a long time!Read full review

This drive is not the fastest on the market but is very quick. This is definitely a good choice for a laptop or desktop upgrade. The USB3 to SATA adaptor included in the update kit worked well. The Acronis included software did the job for cloning the computer drive while in place. After a required reboot the software locks out the system drive you are cloning and creates a true clone of your system drive. After cloning, put the PNY SSD in the same location as the original system drive and boot up VIOLA your done. Make sure to use a USB3 port if available, speeds up the process.

PNY SSDs are very good cost vs performance. I've put a dozen in service and have never had any issues. PNY is the balance between the higher end samsung and the lower end no name brands. It's literally plug and play, format and go. Dependable. Good value. Can't go wrong.

I have trusted PNY for years. This is fourth of these drives I have bought, decent speed, very dependable, holes match up (unlike some of the cheaper SSD's out there) . I recommend using them only half capacity to maintain good speed.

This SSD is a great value for the money. It made my 8 year old Dell laptop as fast as a new one. I also installed a Samsung SSD in another Dell laptop. I spent more on the Samsung SSD than the PNY SSD. The performance improvement of the PNY was the same as the Samsung at a much lower price. The only advantage of the Samsung over the PNY was Samsung offered free cloning software whereas I needed to search for free cloning software to use with the PNY SSD. I used Aomie Backupper Standard.
