The old iPods do not charge via a USB cable, so you have to have the firewire cable and charger. Mine was lost long ago and the only charger that worked was in my car that would slowly charge the device. The firewire charger and plug brought back the 60 Gb iPod so it can run while charging and completely charge. The cost is very reasonable if your old device still works.
