My first impression of the AKG P220 microphone is that it is materially of the highest quality. The microphone has a heft and feel of real quality. I especially like the metal fabric that covers the actual diaphram - it too is of highest quality. I had NO complaints about my previous microphone, but I had a belief that something of higher sound quality was available, and the P220 IS providing that higher sound quality, at a price that's extremely affordable. If you're not familiar with condenser microphones, you WILL need to purchase an audio interface that provides 48v (phantom voltage) to the microphone. I indicated that this is NOT a lightweight microphone; by that I only mean that you'll need a boom or stand that will support its nearly one pound weight without sagging or drooping. Overall, I am HIGHLY pleased with this microphone, and I view it as the ultimate addition to my small home studio.Read full review

I'm a bit disappointed in the sound quality. I have a cheaper mic with a fuller bass nicer midrange and crispier high with this MXL 990 .This AKG P220 I don't know if this is new, used and been dropped several times. I watch a few reviews on youtube and they look and sounded pretty nice but again youtube is full of scum bags who promotes mic products but actually using like a Neumann U87 mic instead of what they are reviewing and get kick backs for doing fake reviews..

This is a great starter microphone for just about anyone. There is negative feedback in the circuit, by design, which helps corral the typically peaky high frequencies of less expensive microphone capsules. This is apparent in voiceover and narration work, which requires a mic that doesn't provide too much boost in mid to high-frequency ranges, less the narrator's voice becomes grating to the listener. This mic is a great mic for vocal starters with a good pickup pattern that seems to reject side noise fairly well, and doesn't seem responsive at all from the rear.

This a great mic even at the 149 new price point. So my story is, I was doing in house recordings up until A year ago. I tore all stuff down to re-do the room. I use a Shure ksm32 mic for vocals. Now when I hooked everything back up the mic wasn’t working. Tried different mic cords etc. my 57 worked but the kam32 wouldn’t. Shure wanted 230 just to look at it. Found this mic and great reviews. Bought it used for 107 including original case and all parts. Plugged it in and it wouldn’t work!! Oh come on...stupid me, I checked the back of my rack mount mixer. Channel wasn’t on “Phantom power”. Jeez...so I recorded 2 separate vocal tracks. The akg was a bit quieter Then the Shure but I’m telling you the clarity was indistinguishable. I’ll be using this mic for years to come!!!

Great sound for vocals in the lower registers as it’s higher frequencies needed to be rolled off to get an accurate recording. Overall a good sounding mic.

I've only used it for a few recordings so far (saxophone) but it sounds clear and natural.
