If you're looking for an inexpensive, quality pad controller for finger drumming or punching in drum parts to your DAW, this is the one. The pads feel great and are responsive with just the right velocity sensitivity. It's also full featured and very easy to use. Setup is a breeze and the parameters are easily adjustable with the free MPD218 editor software. Well worth the price of admission.

I wish I had checked the reviews on this product before I purchased it. Most of the reviews I've read spoke to the fact that the pads double trigger often and there's really no way to correct it. I would not recommend this product unless you are good with electronics.

It's really responsive with zero lag between hitting the pads and triggering the midi notes. And there's no ghost hits either like some of its predecessors (hitting one pad and triggering another pad because of its sensitivity). There's three different pad choices so you can have 3 different mappings. Compact and light weight for gigs. I like Akai, their midi stuff is almost always solid. This is probably my favorite piece of gear by them.

Be sure to carefully download and extract all associated software. Takes a while but once you get it up and running there’s a lot this simple machine can do.
