This steel trap is very reliable. A great tool for the gardens to remove destructive rats, voles, mice and chipmunks. I added a coat hanger to tie it down just in case something tries to drag it off. Works best if you can determine where the run or path of the rodent is, the big pan will make triggering it easy. If using outside, coat with WD40 so the rustting slows down

I'm on critter #24 and it just keeps going up now that I have found the perfect location - 2 per day. I have seen people complain about the sheet metal pressure-plate being "just thin sheet metal", but I actually like that bc it gives me the ability to put a slight bend in it (if I need to) if the ground under it is uneven. Then I just gently press it down until it's at the cusp of release and I leave it. I have saved MANY PICTURES of each Critter's demise as proof (I could only upload 5 though), but I will just say that when it closes, it can have a rat's skull (or even the entire body) in between the jaws, and the jaws will STILL make contact with each other. THAT'S powerful I would love to buy dozens of these and stick them all around, but currently I have only 1 bc I wanted to test the ability before I commit. I dab a little vegetable oil or peanut oil on my finger from time-to-time to keep it coated bx it is metal, and if you just neglect it and leave it outside it will develop spots of surface rust. Used motor oil worked too, but critters like the smell of peanut oil much more, so it only helped my situationRead full review

The trigger plate & latch are made from a very thin, cheap metal and held together by an even cheaper rivet. It broke on the very first attempt at setting it. The jaws, as my finger will attest, do hold firmly & strongly.

May be illegal to use in the woods because it has teeth on the jaws.
