I got this Q9650 to install into my Dell OptiPlex 755 Mini-Tower PC [got it 2 years ago-here on eBay], it originally came with a Core2 Duo processor [E8400/3.00Ghz/6M/1333] and 2Gb/DDR2/PC-6400 of RAM. I maxed the RAM to 8Gb and set it up as a Dual-boot machine [with Windows 7 Professional/64-bit & Windows Xp Professional/32-bit]. While this PC was very fast at that point, it became lightning-fast with this processor upgrade. Being a 2008 PC, I was limited by the LGA 775 processor socket for possible CPU upgrades. Checking ratings and benchmarks for several processors with the LGA 775 design, the Q9650 always ranked above other processors that could be installed [and still ranks above plenty of more modern processors]. Everything that I do on this PC now happens instantly. While running in either Windows 7, or Xp, the system used to "think" for a second-then execute. Now, with this processor upgrade, everything executes instantaneously, on demand. I may never need to upgrade again for faster performance, besides, anything more modern that could run this great would probably be very expensive. So far, with all memory, graphics card, and processor upgrades that have been done, including the original purchase of the Mini-Tower, my overall cost has been less than $300.00. Now I have stellar performance with this processor.Read full review

Nice CPU to install on a ASUS P5Q. While this is listed as a"retired" Intel CPU, think again. 12M of cache per core, 1333 mHz at a 9 multiplier? That is still a lot of horsepower for a "retired" CPU. Various sites still list this between $150 to over $200. For the money, this CPU rocks. Mild overclock to 3.2 with air cooling by FSB increase only. Raised my Windows 7 Experience score to 7.4. I think this will keep me from moving to the newest Core i5 or i7 and newer motherboard and memory for quite a while. Great to get a pretested, guaranteed unit too.

I used this processor chip to replace/upgrade a Core 2 Duo 7500 type- what a difference! Installation was simple (once I had cleaned off the old thermal compound from the cooler)- I just put the chip in the socket, did up the clamp, put on fresh thermal compound and refitted the cooler. The machine (Dell Optiplex 380, with 8GB RAM upgraded from 4GB) fired up immediately, and much faster than with the old processor- excellent result, I am well pleased!

what can I say other than this is one of the best performing CPU's I have ever owned. bought it for an old dell 780 optiplex mt project running win 7 64 pro. . an SSD, 16G RAM, AMD R7 250 and the windows index with the stock E 7500 core 2 duo topped at 5.6.. dropped (literally dropped) this Q9650 and the windows index went to 6.9.... that's the same as my Dell 470 Vostro mt with an Intel 3rd gen I-5 3450. so far I am unable to max out this Q9650. my 60+ Mb internet connection gives out long before. the old E7500 would max out watching netflix and downloading updates. barely hits 30% on this Q9650. from cold button push to online with firefox open in average of 48 seconds! even with the intel matrix storage user annoyance startup delay. works much better than I expected it would worth 2x what I paidRead full review

The robustness of Intel processors is always impressive. All 4 of my desktops use 2nd-hand Core 2 Quads @ 3GHz, or, in one case, a Duo @ 3.3GHz. All I need.
