I can't say enough good about this wikireader. My first one died after several years, and I was amazed to see them discontinued. Honestly, I never liked the less-than-stellar screen, so before looking for another one of these, I was pretty sure the same data would be available for an e-reader, tablet or laptop - and with a much more readable screen. Sure, you can log onto Wikipedia, but for a non-Internet device, for whatever reason (probably licensing issues), the wikireader's staggering amount of data is just not available on or for any other device. Long story short? Accept the screen and the eyestrain; if you can even find one of these, grab it, consider yourself blessed, and hang on to that baby for dear life. If you want a protective case, there's a Nintendo padded neoprene case that fits perfectly.Read full review

The major problem I have with this unit is that you cannot control the brightness. It is pretty hard to read unless you have it held in just the right angle and with enough outside light, a very annoying aspect of using it. Also, you cannot change the size of the lettering. It is as it is, and that's it. It is useful as a take along reference tool. I carry it with me in my bag and if I need to know something while outside, it is good to have available. Once in a while, I will also use it to kill time (i.e. while waiting in the waiting room of my doctor's office). But that's about it. If I would have a choice now to buy it again, I would not, but it is pretty cheap and if you can use it in more situations than me, I guess it's worth it.
Got this item for my Granddaughter for X-Mas. She likes it. I think this will be good as a learning tool for her. She likes to study and this can be an asset to her. In fact I'm going to order another one for myself since she likes hers. I like this item because of it's size and ease of useing.
This wiki reader is a fantastic product. I find it very easy to use and also convenient. Its great to have when you go on long trips or are just bored and want to learn something new. The battery life is great the the screen is very readable as long as you have adequate lighting. You can also update the wikis and add new wikis such as wikitionary or wikiquote from the wikireader website. Overall Ive had a great experience with this product.
Total waste of money. Never could get it to work right. Battery was DOA, which confused the issue at first. Fixed that, then found the on-screen keyboard impossible to use. No stylus was included & I had a hard time getting the right letters to come up. In fact I never was able to type in the whole word; the first letter might finally come up, then the screen would "freeze" or go to the number screen. Just didn't work right. Also, my screen certainly never looked like the one in the picture here. Only black & white and no graphics at all. I bought it because I wanted a quick reference guide, but that didn't happen. Only thing I liked about it was the size.
