The 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator 3D Mouse has made this exciting technology accessible for artists, students, architects, and anyone looking to navigate 3-D environments from their home computer. SpaceNavigator comes backed by the trusted IBM name and includes its own software that will instantly have you up and running. Just download the program from the included CD and you are ready to start exploring new 3-D worlds with the click of a button. This IBM product features a trackball design, wired connectivity, and 10 different buttons for ease of use whether you are using this device for work or play.Glide through projects using this multi-directional navigator. With this tool, you can zoom in and rotate 3-D images at the same time. Use the tool to perform a full 360-degree panoramic view of any three-dimensional model. This 3DX-700028 has a kinetic optical sensor to navigate through six different geographic planes of motion. You can program two different function keys to your exact specifications to complete each project. Simply connect the product to any universal USB port on laptops, tablets, notebooks, or desktop computers.Use this mouse's controller cap to control models and graphs on your screen beyond a flat plane. The wide cap surface allows you to tilt, push, pull, or slide objects in three-dimensional view. Because the SpaceNavigator uses a pressure-sensitive 6DOF controller, you can quickly increase or decrease the speed of any digital command. Work efficiently without needing to stop to check zoom or change direction. The 3DConnexion mouse also features a stainless steel base to create a stable weight and keeps your device from sliding off your desk or table. With the SpaceNavigator, you can simultaneously adjust, direct, zoom, and flip selected items. You can also retain standard mouse commands, such as right click and scroll. Instead of having to stop and search for the file, you can access the command with a simple button click. The portable 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator comes in handy for a variety of projects. Because it functions like an extension of the hand, it is a great tool for architects, CAD engineers, and graphic designers. Students and teachers working with geometry, physics, calculus, or chemistry can use these devices to improve understanding of planes, vectors, or modules. With these mice, individuals can view everything from the center of atoms to complex molecules in 3-D, providing greater visual understanding than from 2-D sketches in textbooks or notebooks alone. From science projects to math homework, users can enlarge abstract content and improve performance with this tool. Artists, animators, and even interior designers can use the SpaceNavigator in numerous project categories. The tool is also small and easy to transport, making it a great companion for portable laptops and notebooks.Due to its advanced technology, you can also use the 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator with existing three-dimensional applications. This type of navigator is compatible with SolidWorks, Adobe Photoshop, and many other software programs. A major benefit is that you can also use this tool across different operating systems. Use the SpaceNavigator with Windows, Mac, and even Linux without getting unnecessary feedback from OS drivers. When you use the 3DX-700028, you do not have to alter mice settings. Simply connect the 3DX-700028 to standard USB drives found on desktop computers or notebooks and use it as a complement to other software accessories or programs.

I use the device for my cad/3d design work. It really makes navigating around the object VERY smooth and easy. You can read the write-up on use with the latest driver on their website. While it is not officially supported, some key components of the newer driver still recognize this baby. So you WILL see the newer functionality while using this older unit. Is the brand new model likely better? Of course. But, do you want to save a few bucks to dip your toes in and see how you like it:? Yeah. Me, too! And if I ever need to move to the new model with its cooler feature set at least I will have something to sell which justifies the purchase in my mind. I really like my Space Pilot.
For those whose style of work is compatible, the device is a game changer.
For anyone using 3D Computer Aided Design, this device has the potential to change the way you work. The device gives you the ability to pan and zoom with one hand, while using the mouse for selection and drawing with the other. This increases speed and accuracy once you get the hang of it. Adaptation happened quickly for me. The device is somewhat sensitive, however. I've used 3D CAD since its inception, and I wouldn't want to go back. Others have found it frustrating, however. Also, some have developed the habit of using the left hand for keyboard shortcuts. You'll need to evaluate your work style.
Many of the programs I've used over the years have supported this product. The list of products supported on 3Dconnexion's website looks incomplete. I would suggest contacting the technical support staff for your CAD software to make sure your software is supported. I have personally used it with SketchUp and TurboCAD. All my old CAD programs (Pro Engineer, Solidworks, Alibre) reside on another machine, and I haven't installed drivers, or tried using the device with my legacy software.
Drivers are available for download at the 3Dconnexion website.Read full review
Pricey, but worth every penny. If using CAD or Sketchup, a must have tool!
I'm an avid Sketchup user and saw this 3D mouse Navigator in a Youtube video tutorial. It has enhanced the pleasure of my tasks navigating around my project on screen, thus making my job so much easier and FUN to do. I also like it for Google Earth location hunting. It's really easy to learn how to use and actually becomes part of a natural thot and movement when you use it.
Great product and I recommend it to whom ever used 3D software applications.
I've been wanting one of these since forever. I've used them at work doing my CAD/CAM designing/Programming and they are a joy to use and a real time multiplier. Any shop that ISN'T using these mice and dual monitors has missed the boat where productivity is concerned. Shame on them, Penny rich & pound poor I say.... it's money well spent.
I just recently discovered they can be using with many non-industry applications that have multiple layering and 3d geometry like Google Earth for example. With a little lit pf practice I was flying around sites like a helicopter. Pretty cool and makes exploring very easy and quick!
Anyone techie inclined would appreciate the added versatility of using one of these 6 axis mice.
This device is possibly the single best tool you could possibly have if your job or hobby involves working in a 3D space like Maya, 3DS, Inventor, etc. It is very well designed and virtually indestructible to boot. As a seller I have handles at least 50 of these devices in the past, and the large majority of them are in perfect condition after all this time. They perform flawlessly, calibrate easily, and have a wealth of non-invasive features that make your life a whole lot easier. The newer model is just as good, but if you don't want to break your bank, this older model will not disappoint in any way!
