Report on my Fluval, changing from Top Fin. Had to wait the month out from my Top Fin filter cleaning change. Didn't want to change the filter systems mid-month. Top Fin sits in the water, for outgoing water, so it is quiet, but you can't tell if its working. So the Fluval 407 is awesome, but its a waterfall sound effect. I just have to get used to it over time. Good for meditations. But yes, don't need the chemicals. but it came with 2 packages of Phosphate. 4 bags of Charcoal. 2 bags of tube media, and coarse filter and mild filter. I used the Coarse and lite filter bottom tray of 4. Then tube new rinsed off, media, mixed with my old tube media. 3rd try up, then 2nd tray up, I used me old really good long media, mixed a few new ones in. Then last tray top tray 4th tray, one carbon one side and Poly-Fil on top of it, and the other half side all Poly-Fil. NEVER START A RUNNING TANK WITH BRAND NEW MEDIA. Always use the older bacteria one and you can mix newer ones pieces in after rising. So yes, happy for now. 100 gal 407 filter for my 55 tank....it will be pretty clean and using Poly-Fil keeps the water clear.....Hobby Lobby $2.99 Poly-Fil, at Michael's they wanted with tax over $7. so I returned it and grabbed it at Hobby Lobby!!!Read full review

Best aquarium investment I've made. Works beyond my expectations. Did a lot of research on canister filters prior to buying, and found this to be the best option for my 75 gallon tank. Very easy to setup, lots of YouTube videos on what to use for a crystal clear tank. My family is still new to aquariums, so this has turned into my hobby.

I was a little dubious when unpacking the Fluval 407 Performance Canister Filter because some of the plastic parts seemed cheap, especially compared to my previous filter. The set up process was more involved than I was expecting as well, but once everything was in place, I have been very pleased. It powerfully cleans my 75-gallon aquarium with an acceptably quiet hum. There is no leaking like my previous filter, and I love the compact size. It fits perfectly under my cabinet. My previous filter was a monster that was always a struggle getting in and out. Now that I have the Fluval for over a week, I can say I'm really happy with it.

Eheim or Fluval. The neverending debate. I wonโt settle this question. All I can tell you is the Fluval 407 is very quiet. It is easy to set up (although tubing is a bit stiff). For someone who wants inline co2 I would go for eheim as the tubing is not rippled and you wouldโt have to hack your way around to install. I run it in tank so not an issue for me. It is a powerful filter and very silent. It is in my room on a 90g tank and all I can hear are the hobs running in the living room 20 feet away. Maintenance is easy and for those who might still own a 404, there are many improvements. The baskets are held by a long stick that goes trouvh them so that they can be removed all at once. The quality of the moving pieces ( in and outake shutoff; tubing holding pins; cover pins) are of better quality even though still plastic. It is a great quality filter and should last for years.Read full review

Fantastic Aquarium Canister Filter. I wouldn't buy any other type. I have used several of these since 2003. And the two that I bought in 2003 are still working. Great GREAT Value.

This is my second fluval canister filter. My first is the 106, on my 15 gallon reef tank. They are easy to use, easy to clean and very quiet. I put the 407 on a 40 gallon tank. These are very good filters. The only con I have found on 407 is the flow nozzle could be a little bit bigger. It is squeezing 383 gph, the same size nozzle as the 106, which then causes the hose to vibrate against wall. I put a rag around hose to stop it, no big deal. The flow is pretty strong in a concentrated area, which could be a problem, if you don't need alot of it. Overall, I highly recommend this filter!

I have used Fluval for years and it has always worked great! It's to me the best brand and I would recommend it to everyone!

The fit doesn't quite align with the trigger guard... making it necessary to compensate with a tad more tension than I would like... also, the belt hook lacks the tension to give me a confident (fast) draw without being concerned with the holster coming with the gun. I will only be able to wear this with a thick belt to ensure good clip engagement. Overall, it's made well, just not perfect. No regrets, but I will be looking for an IWB that's better. I think it needs a spring steel clip instead.

Works well in my 50 gallon fresh water tank. Cleaning is time consuming. Unless you have large fish as I do, the Marineland Emperor is sufficient and much easier to maintain.

Had already the 306 for some time, but decided to upgrade for the additional flow. Nice and quiet, I love the filter. Flawless...
