For weeks I let my L Series 24-105 sit on a shelf without a lens cap, and in that time, a whole lot of dust found its way onto the front element. I had lost my lens cap, but didn't think much of it until I needed to shoot again and had to clean the lens pretty good. So I went on eBay looking for another lens cap, and there were a bunch of knock off Chinese ones. But I stuck to an original Japanese-made Canon original. And I'm sure glad I did! It really keeps the dust off my lens when I'm not shooting with it, and it looks just like the original one, so I often forget how stupid I was to lose the original lens cap, in the first place. Which I'm sure will pop up one day when I least expect it. But what will I do with TWO lens caps?
