Remember, one guitarists holy grail pedal is another guitarists paper weight. Subjective to perspective, personal tone endeavors and that elusive sound in your head. My favorite pedal(s) really starts with a Centavo compressor/boost. (I have 3 pedal boards, all have this at the very beginning, regardless of the multiple other types within the chain. I like TC Electronic because these pedals are extremely quite. I also like MXR, and the Boss Metal Core. The Dark Matter pedal has extreme tone, compared to other distortion pedals, that just make noise. However, I am just a stupid guitar player that thinks that most pedals are a necessary evil.

It is a bit more fuzzy that I expected, you can play around with the bass and treble controls but in general the high end cuts throug all the time. It can go very very heavy into the higher gain configuration, but always keep a good definition on each string. Solid rock built, soft knobs and really cool looking. Also arrived quickly in perfect condition. Highly recomended even might not be the best suit for myself due to the excessive fuzz. Might be very awesome for heavy rock stuff!

Momma said knock you out, I am reviewing from a practice amp, but can imagine this as a top of the notch pedal to string in conjunction with dist. Octave, chorus, it is a seriously broad reaching distortion that does more varying "styles" than my Ultra metal behringer

Good value for a versatile mild distortion pedal. The controls adjust the gain, volume, bass, and treble which allows a lot of fine tuning. The bass and treble controls are really helpful when switching between single coil and humbucker pickups. There is also a micro-switch to change the voice setting. It is really a mid shift control for the tone. To my ears the lead setting is best; the rhythm setting sounds muddy. Up to around 12:00 to 1:00 on the gain control seems to stay in Tube Screamer territory. I'm able to get classic 70's rock sound staying in this range. Past 1:00 on the gain control gets into heavier distortion more suited for modern heavy metal. It isn't as hardcore as the name suggests - I think heavy metal fans would probably find its distortion too mild - but the Dark Matter pedal is still a versatile, good sounding pedal for the money.Read full review
