The black Superslim Sony PlayStation 3 250GB console is lighter, smaller, and more power-efficient than earlier models. Aside from playing a huge range of compatible PlayStation games, the console also doubles as a Blu-ray player. You can enjoy high-definition entertainment from a range of different sources. The Always On connectivity allows you to jump between local and online gameplay with ease. You can hone your skills in private or jump in to save a friend in battle. When you are done gaming, you can always use the console to browse the internet. You could even download fresh content for your favorite games for an additional edge. Out of the box, Sony delivers a console capable of being all the hardware you need to enjoy video games or Blu-ray. This is the console to be using if you enjoy playing Uncharted 3 or any Call of Duty game. These consoles come with a controller, a USB controller cord, and the other digital cords you'll need to hook your console up to the TV. Whatever you like to play, this compact version of the Sony PlayStation 3 is perfect for delivering high-quality graphics for all your favorite entertainment. When you add this slim PlayStation 3 to your arsenal, you'll see no shortage of gaming and media options. The slim PS3 is equipped with streaming services like NFL Sunday Ticket, Vudu, Amazon, and Netflix. The enhanced performance and advanced features make a resounding impression for this slim model. The device features a glossy finish. Media is inserted in the non-motorized sliding cover on the top-left section of the console. The PlayStation 3 is designed to be set down vertically or horizontally, giving you more flexibility for your entertainment setup and making use of the PS3's slim profile.
Now I've wanted one of these for a while, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. However, it's a bit harder to navigate and deal with compared with the Xbox 360. The downloads and store are a little bit worse in terms of UI, but that's fine once you get used to it. However, ever since I switched hard drives (which, again, was harder to do than the 360) it crashes intermittently, but does not make it unplayable, usually does it during the XMB. Just glad to finally have it after all these years.
The super slim ps3 was released only a year before the ps4 came out, giving it a good remaining lifespan. I do like the manual disk-tray slide as (like the ps1) you can remove disks while the power is off. The ps3 design is also more efficient and isn't as likely to die due to the YLOD problem the initial generations suffered from. The PS3 also plays ps1 games, which are fun to revisit.
One caveat is that some of the online features have been obsoleted, including those for individual PS3 games. However, if your main interest is single-player offline, the games are still quite good (we have a ps4 so I'm comparing to that). The other oddity is that the DVD player works but the Blu-Ray does not. I don’t know if its a firmware/software/laser failure (DVD and Blu-Ray use separate lasers).
The specific console I received was in good condition with barely any wear. Other than the Blu-Ray issue it works fine.Read full review
It does everything it's supposed to, it's like I just bought a new one.
The PS3 was in excellent condition. Looked brand new. Plays games perfectly, whether on disk or downloaded I've had no problems. It charges my controller, which my Playstation would no longer do. It was exactly what I needed, especially with the whole pandemic going on. Have had no problems with it at all. Reads every disk I put in, fast load times, and my Playstation couldn't even get a good internet connection, things that took me 19 hrs. to download on my old system took 5 minutes with this one. Very happy with the product and felt the cost was fantastic for what I got,
I am a casual gamer. Played video games back in the early 80's (Atari console) and mid to late 90's (Doom, Duke Nuke'm). I also bought a Wii a few years ago, mainly for my daughters.
So, I'd been thinking about playing more and was considering an XBox, PlayStation or the new Wii U. Well, latest gen consoles are too expensive for a casual gamer like me, so looked to get an XBox 360 or PS3 and decided on the later.
I found a good deal on a used console on eBay (PS3 Super Slim with 250GB hard drive) and pulled the trigger. Also got a bunch of used games here on eBay as well (Destiny, Journey, GTA IV, Gran Turismo 6, and others). Let me say this, these video games are just awesome when compared to the old stuff and the Wii. The graphics on the PS3 are fantastic and the speed of the console is quite good: for the graphics it's processing, there isn't any lag on the TV screen.
It's also quite convenient to have the ability to stream video (Netflix and Amazon Prime) on the PS3 and to be able to play DVD/Bluray discs.
For 1/3 of the cost of a PS4, I really think the PS3 is an excellent choice for those seeking to play awesome games at a fraction of the cost of a next gen console.Read full review
With the PS4 out now a monthly, annual or trimounthly service for online game play is required. Xbox has had it for a long time but the PS3 was the last free one. They're not really making new games for it though. Lots of great games to play. I've been playing Destiny for about 2 years now, but the last DLC was for PS4 and Xbox one only.
