This is a nice-appearing but poorly-engineered frame. My first pair broke on the frame-side at the hinge, because the frame-side boss is a relatively small pin (the center of the hinge), whereas the stem-side is the more substantial fork-shape half of the hinge. The frame-side snapped off, but if the design were reversed (fork-side on the frame), then the (presumably) easily-replaced stem would have broken, leaving the frame intact. I speculate that the frame material is carefully chosen to support elasticity sufficient to install the lenses and withstand gentle use, but rigid enough to retain the lenses and hold shape, and that reversing the hinge would result in a frame-side attachment of sufficient material to withstand a wider range of stress than the current design. My prescription lenses were fine - unaffected when the frame broke - but the optician charges full retail for a new frame, so I was thrilled to purchase a replacement frame inexpensively on eBay and to swap the lenses myself. If I were starting over with a new prescription lens + frame purchase, I would choose a different frame - perhaps a metal 'flexi-frame' .Read full review
