Unpacked it, mounted it on my tripod and shot a gathering for the Chamber of Commerce within hours. Results every bit as smooth as my "Big Rig," but 1/4 the size and weight. This one will even go on my AMTRAK Adventures next year. Glad to have it in my inventory.

Arrived quicker than I expected and that was a nice surprise. Also it was brand new as far as I can tell. The head is full sized but still light.,perfect for mid size camcorders or a DSLR if you don’t build it to big or long. Keeping it under 15 lbs has a nice pan and tilt, great starter head or additional head for B cameras

This is my first video head. The pan movement is adjustable from easy to hard, it can also lock. One needs to have a means of leveling the camera, since the flat base on the head only allows for X and Y movements. In my case, I'm using a camera that has a tripod ring on the lens and I'm fixing the lens onto the video base. The tripod ring can rotate and that gives me the extra flexibility, otherwise, I would have to raise and lower the tripod legs to get a level baseline in order to get a straight horizon. The head is quality and feels solid. Without any experience with other products, it's hard for me to say if it's better or worse, but I would recommend it. You may need an additional adapter plate that fits on the camera to attach the camera to the head, if you have more than one camera and don't want to switch the plate each time you switch camera on the tripod. The adapter plate that comes with the head is long so that you can adjust the position the plate on the camera base to distribute the weight and balance the camera/lens on the head.Read full review

I love the Manfrotto MVH502AH Video Head. It is very high quality and has never let me down. I rented the head a few times from rental companies before buying it, and I have had no regrets since. It is made of high quality parts but the thing that differentiates this head from others is that it has a variable pan drag to it. Most other heads at this price only support tilt drag with a pan lock, but no variable pan drag. This helps a lot when the content being captured changes from slow to fast or if the weight of the setup also changes. The quick release plate is very hefty and robust, and i am not afraid to put my expensive equipment on it. The size is a little large for compact run and gun, but if that doesn't concern you, you can't go wrong with this purchase! All in all, you cannot beat this video head for the price and reliabilty.Read full review

great value in a fluid head, well built and hundreds of dollars less than comparable models.

Yes it’s bigger than a ball head, but if you’ve big enough lens or gear, then you will need a bigger ball head anyway, and they get expensive too. Using a fluid head seems to give more bang for buck since by design they always take counterweight balance into consideration. And once balanced it is so much more easier to control a long focal length shoot ... which you need a strong tripod anyway. This model is actually not that heavy, and for the benefits it brings, add videography , I am very happy!

I needed a tripod head that can tilt nearly straight up (not all do - looks like a lot of video heads can tilt all the way up, but not all camera heads!) and steadily hold 10lb 100mm Astronomy binoculars. It holds them very steady! And the balance system is perfect for these binoculars. I can tilt them all the way up and they stay in place with no downward or upward movement after I let go. Smooth movement in pan and tilt directions.

I use my Manfrotto MVH502AH Video Head with a Nikon D800 and I could not be happier with this video head. It has great adjustmets and tesntion slope control both vertical and horizonntal. It's pretty well made and works pefrfectly for my needs. It is a little larger for a DSLR camera, but it handles the weight safely. No worries here. The Fluid drag system is great, I love the flexability to ajust it in any direction, with no woble. Highly recommend it.

I liked this 502 video head. I used it for my NX5U camcorder as well as Sony FS100. Pans very smooth and when the tilt is adjusted properly it tilts smooth. I have two gripes about it 1) the bubble level is hard to see when a camera is mounted on it, so I use the bubble level on the tripod to level. 2) The tilt friction is very tricky to get the right tension. You have to both hand tighten the friction knob as tight as you can and tighten the lock somewhat to get some drag from it too. I will say it is the prettiest head!
great piece of gear. thoughtfully crafted, solid design, excellent performance. if you are looking for something lightweight, this is not the camera head for you. but if you are looking for smooth, sturdy, and well built, then this is it.
