This is my third wide angle lens, and was my third attempt at a used one. I do real estate videos so I need a lens that will give me wider perspective and also one with a wider aperture. I've filmed two videos using this and the quality is very good very sharp. Of course outside it really shines! But inside it does extremely well too. I use this with my Canon T3I and it works perfect. I have not tried any pictures, but if you are like me and do videos and want a wider angle lens this is great choice, as a side not. I had this on my slider and forgot to lock it well didn't the tripod tip and my camera slide right off and fall about 3' and nothing happened to either the camera or lens. I don't suggest this but just saying it's built very well. I got mine used for $275

I had this lens for about and hour before it went back in the box. It indeed took a very wide angle view much more than my 18-55mm on my Nikon D90 11mp from 10 years ago, but this on my Canon 7D 18mp the pictures would not focus. Every picture close or far was out of focus enought to zoon in and any picture and it looked like a 2mp took them. I went to my $100 camera I bought at a garage sale the Nikon D90 with the bundled lens and it was crisp and clear in any light. I have had many pictures published with my 7D and it is a great camera, noting wrong with it.

Ratings take into account the type of lens it is. Obviously it's not as sharp as a 50mm prime for example but I rated it a "5" because I cannot reasonably expect it to be any sharper based on other lenses in it's class. I would have given 4.5 for build. My only negatives for this lens are things that cannot be helped. Such as the large hood makes it difficult to pack, and the large 77m filter size makes buying filters extra pricey. Has a slight tendency toward over exposure in very bright situations when shooting in larger apertures.(probably to be expected). Aside from that I have no problem saying this is currently the best ultra wide option for APS-C Sony mount's at any price. Sturdy build with nice balance. Both the focus and zoom rings are smooth with nice resistance allowing for precise manual operation if needed. No gravelly felling at all to the focus ring. Also, neither ring is a lint magnet like most Sony's. The sharpness is outstanding for such a wide lens. Colors are very true and rich (with Sony A330). Sky's are particularly smooth with very rich colors (a great quality for a lens suited for landscapes). The f/2.8 seems very usable with regard to distortion and sharpness. I'm sure the f/2.8 which is rare for ultra wide lenses will be a huge help for future indoor shooting. I can see some nice opportunities with this lens next time I shoot a church wedding for example. I like the AF/MF clutch. I like the fact that it does not circumvent the camera's setting. All my other lenses the setting on the lens takes precedence over the setting on the camera. The Tokina is the opposite which I prefer. Reason being every lens has the AF/MF switch in a slightly different position. It's always in the same spot on the camera so I figure this one should be the primary. I've read that in the past Tokina lenses did not attach easily. In fact I read several accounts from Canon and Nikon users that sited difficulty attaching the lens as the only down side. I'm happy to report that there are no such issues with the A-mount. Attaches easily and sits very snugly with very minimal play. Both chromatic aberration and barrel distortion are well within expected and acceptable levels. The felt on the inside of the included petal hood is (as usual) a total lint magnet. Matting tape works perfectly to remove the lint without leaving a residue.Read full review
In this class of lens there's only a couple f2.8 rectilinear lens that are this wide. One is a very expensive canon and then there's this one. After checking out a lot of reviews and images on Flickr I decided to buy it. When it was delivered I unboxed and mounted it. The build quality is fantastic. The focus and "zoom" rings are dampered and smooth, it's a metal mount, quality finishes on the exterior, thick style lens cap. I own 4 other $200-1400 canon lenses and this one ranks up there. Charts show some "mustache distortion", but nothing that's noticeable unless you're taking a straight on shot of a brick wall, and even then you can correct it in Light Room with the lens correction panels. As far as the usability of a super wide, especially on a non-full frame camera, like the Canon Xti, T2i, 60D(I have), 7D, etc,...there is no question that it's worth it because these camera crop your images with a 1.6 multiplying crop factor (if you're shooting with a 16mm you're really shooting 25.6mm equivalent. I always take this out when I'm doing indoor shots of the family around the table, and even pop off a couple with it when me or my fiance are doing paid shoots for engagements, bridals, portraits, etc. For the money you can't beat this lens. It will be a great addition to your photo kit. -Paul Duffey peepsakestudios.comRead full review
I've purchased the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX For Canon a couple months ago and it have been a wonder from the time to box was opened. For anyone who uses a APS-C (Type C) sensor camera I highly recommend this lens. The constant f/2.8 aperture is a dream to shoot with. Although it is not as fast as a good 'ol prime lens in low light, just bump up the ISO and you're good to go. Super wide, great for shooing in tight spaces. Haven't shot any landscapes but I can see the potential. All around a great lens to work with, quality build, feels solid, and comes with a supplied hood for added protection.
This lens was recommend by a total e stranger on a cocktail function . I look into it and i was impressed by the linear focus and how sharp the pic came out for the money this lens is totally under-price for about 650.00 it is 1000.00 cheaper than a canon super-wide angle at 2.8f . and yes it is a 2.8f at any focus length . At the far edges you could see some distortion at 11mm but this is to be expected from a such a wide angle just make sure when taking pic of people to give yourself some cropping space so this little distortion could be crop. focus is super accurate and very fast ,colors are amazing. with a littler practice you can get real creative with this lens . not to forgot that this lens was created for a c sensor camara (o crop sensor) very happy with it was very difficult to get my hands on one of them I think because they are so popular . construction of this lens is solid very, very, very, well made. feel so good in your hands.smooth. This is the first non canon lens i got and i own about 10. All of them 2.8f and below 1.2f . this lens is that good.Read full review
I was hesitant due to reviews that this had fuzzy edges and vignette at 11mm focal length. But this is the sharpest wide angle for DX that is affordable. I mean f2.8 constant, what else could you want. Plenty sharp for DX camera. Get this lens.

For crop sensor cameras, this is probably one of the best wide angle lens available today. I've owned the 16-35L Mk II for full frame 5D and now that I'm down sizing, I really wanted a super wide angle with constant 2.8 aperture. Well, the Tokina is not as wide as the 16-35L on full frame and not as long as 35mm, but I really like this lens a lot. It's incredibly sharp at all apertures and focuses very quickly. On build quality, I would rate this lens very close to, if not equal to Canon L lenses. The zoom and the focus is nice and smooth. I highly recommend this lens to all crop sensor camera shooters who are looking for a wide angle lens.
This is the only lens that does what it does on crop factor cameras, period. That said, it is also a very nice lens in its own right. Sharpness and overall image quality is very competitive with the best UWA lenses around. The construction is solid; I've never used a Tokina lens before but this one feels like its mostly metal and the focus and zoom controls are silky. The autofocus motor isn't too loud so its almost as good as USM. This lens matches a 7d or other APSC Canon perfectly. BUY IT!
This lens is fun to use, but this focal length is definitely for specific use. The quality is excellent...very solid construction. The range of focal length is pretty limited, basically used for framing. The f/2.8 is very nice to have, but the extra length of the 12-24mm would be nice as well. However, when I'm using a wide angle, it's usually as wide as possible. The only complaint I have is the hood, which falls off easily if bumped. Not a big deal, really. Other than that it's a great lens.
