This digital converter box is useless without the manufacturer remote that comes with original purchase. A universal remote is useless with this unit. I called 866-number on the box and was given the information on how to purchase remote. It will cost about twenty bucks. So I still don't know how this box works. I bought it for 15 bucks on Ebay. If the remote is twenty bucks and I only wanted the converter box to use on a 13 inch analogue TV in my kitchen- it's not worth the money. Since I can buy a brand new converter box (of another brand) with remote for the same price. I will chuck this up to "you get what you pay for" and send it to Good Will..maybe someone will have the remote for it. .

it's a simple box, and after re-programming to local channels (using a universal remote box), it pulls in local free digital tv channels. For the garage TV, it works fine to ditch the extra cable tv box charges.
