    A bit of Promag awesomeness!

I was using my S&W M&P Shield at the range some weeks ago and my aim seemed to be off. The more I tried to stabilize my weapon as I shot at the targets, the more off target my shots became. Then I realized that the recoil was causing my hand to slip at the bottom of the grip. Of course I never have this problem with my full size M&P. Additionally, I only shoot .40 cal and there's no way I would switch to 9mm just to reduce some recoil. I spent many weeks doing lots of research. I saw many brands out there that offer magazine extensions with modifications to the original. I dont have time for all that and many were too expensive. I was about to give up and then I saw it. Not only did Promag offer an extended magazine for the Shield, it needed no modifications and it looked great. Bought it right away. Finally had some range time with the magazine and I am impressed. My groupings improved drastically and the extended grip stabilized the recoil just as I thought. The spring tension gets pretty tight in the magazine during loading but this is expected as it is a new spring that has to be broken in a bit. The only problem that I had was the spring started to catch on the sides of the inner mag. However, this is not a problem. Spray a little Rem oil inside the mag on the spring and you're good to go. The magazine springs should be oiled from time to time on all magazines anyways to ensure proper lubrication and functionality just like the firearm itself. To all of my fellow M&P owners out there, I encourage you to buy one of these mags. Heck, I bought 2 to replace my factory mags and I plan to buy more. I want to give a big thanks to Promag as well because this product is definitely needed.

    Strong feed spring

The mag functions well enough. It fits in the weapon easily. It operates the slide lock when the magazine is empty, as it should. The empty magazine slides out smoothly when the mag release button is pushed. My only drawback with this magazine is the extra stiff feed spring makes it very difficult to load it up fully. Initially, I could only load four rounds the first try. So, I took a wood carpenters pencil and worked the carrier up and down multiple times to break it in. After that, I had a hard time putting 8 rounds in it. My next step will be to disassemble it and smooth any friction surfaces inside of it. If that doesn't work out, I'll try modifying the spring to get the full 9 round count inside of it. I'm not going any further on my recommendations or assessment of it until I've explored it thoroughly. Yes, it has potential. No, it isn't there yet.

  • Well it sounded like a good idea...

REAAAALLY extends the grip which isn't horrible at the range, but the sleeve has a gap (on the two that i got). They will NOT feed flat nosed target rounds (Federal and Aguilla) and had feed problems with round nose ammo as well (FORGET HOLLOW POINTS). I have filed down and rounded off where the mag well meets the feed ramp in hopes this fixes it. My stock 6 and 7 round mags worked perfectly. The quality of materials is very good, just operates like a 'Second' mag.

  • Good idea poorly executed

Bought two, one works fine, the other does not. They load comparable to any other mag and I need a loader. The spring is too tight on one of them and the Maglula loader finger gets stuck between rounds. Also one of them can only load 7 because if I put in 9, the first two rounds hang up on the lip. I will have to file it down a bit if the spring doesn’t relax. The grip extensions are too rough and should be smoothed out. A better design would be to match them with the handgun grip. Also, the grip extensions move up and down the mag. Overall, the quality is just not that good.

  • Improves the capacity of my Shield

I only fired two magazines through this as of yet, a pretty small test. The three star rating was because I experienced a failure to feed on the second round of the first mag full. Not uncommon with a new mag, as is the heavy spring pressure. I suspect the two are related and also suspect a little use will solve both glitches. In northern Minn with two foot of snow, so I'm not going to loose a bunch of brass testing this any more for now. This will need to prove itself before I will trust it with my life. But it's a good usable range mag at least, and may prove dependable. I'll be ordering another.

  • Horrible

Worst product I have purchased in years .One magazine worked fairly well , wouldn't trust it for self defense, range maybe. Other one doesn't even function properly, follower hangs up.Appears to be manufactured well just doesn't function. Will be returning.

  • thought I got a good deal

there are some serious design flaws with this one unless I got a defective one from factory, will not feed last 2 rounds follower gets hung up and cannot load more than 6 rounds and yes this is a 9 round mag.... get my point HOWEVER.... Pro Mag has been a great company to deal with, they gave me a return authorization and they are going to replace it or fix it free.

  • ProMag S&W Shield 40

These magazines cause my gun to jam. The spent shell casings do not eject properly when using the ProMag magazine. They are lifetime guaranteed so I can send them in for replacements, but a firearm must be dependable and I must be able to count on it to work all the time/every time or else I shall not use it. These magazines are a loose fit in the gun, not a snug, tight fit like the original equipment. In the future, I will only buy original Smith & Wesson magazines for my S&W firearm, period. Learned my lesson.

  • Spring is too tight.

I could not get more than 4 rounds in the 40 cal magazine. I physically could not get another round in. Now afyer at least a week, I can get another round in as the spring is relaxing. 2 mags are exactly the same way. I only plan to use them at the range, but wow!

  • Its not all 1 peace

so because it has the extension the plastic spacer floats. makes it hard to load unless you take it off. but other then that its great. and the price is right!
