First time I've bought a hatchet. The quality on this out of the box is certainly suspect. There is no edge put on it and the head was loose on the handle. There wasn't an excuse for this part of it. Someone actually took the time to drill a hole for it without making sure it was tight. The head of this unit was probalby a factory reject since the sandblast was incomplete. With a little sharpening and sanding of the handle I managed to get it tight and sharp. Looking forward to using it in the field...

i got this hatchet for half off. i imagined it was because they were getting to the end of the stock, Well it would make sense because my product was not pristine. you in know way are purchasing a finished product. i needed to sand mine and varnish the handle. i lashed a grip with twine to help give it more purchase as the handle is slim even for my medium handles. the head is solid steel and treated. the weight is perfect and the design with the hammer is great. however the blade is dull and needed to really sharped in. for the price i paid and because i dont mind a project i gave this three stars. but if you want a finished top quality hatchet, then id move along.

We had it with us for easter holiday ,my daughter had some very large willow tree halves in her yard an we used them to through from 10 year old grand kids up it was money well spent just for the enjoyment we had throughing it and it works well make feather sticks as well as choping branches for fire wood now i sharpened it up my self first but they seem to retain an edge quite well and i don't think your going to find a more quality product for the money .

I own quite a few Cold Steel tomahawks and I love them!!! I knew going in they weren’t custom made or handmade and I knew they’d need some work and with a few hand tools and a little time they can be made into a great tool/axe/tomahawk. I have noticed over the years a lot of people who buy them complain about their overall finish out of the box and I truly believe these same people are expecting absolute perfection for less than $30, but to me they’re perfect because I like working with my hands and customizing them to my personal likes. The heads are made from carbon steel and THEY WILL RUST people so either keep them oiled or paint them.

Very nice. Handle is high quality what appears to be hickory. The head itself is very nice. There is a set screw to keep it in place on the handle which is a nice addition
