The business model of Dell laptops Use standard parts built with a Modular framework, easy to service if You understand the way dell does. it is Simple and Straightforward , Strong & reliable. Some like the 630D are very heavy for an 11.6 inch rig, while the 1501 weighs just half that for a 15.6 inch Display, while the 9300 weights the same as the 1501 inspiron, and half the wieght of the 9300D seldom seen Special Military Version. used to operate drones in Unix. all around a used Inspiron is a bargain, many seek them out to refurbish them, as they are built like a Battleship, not like some other Ships. The 9300 is a 17 inch Laptop, like a mobile office add a bigger 2.5 inch SATA Drive @5400RPM & double the Memory for a few bucks & you have something.

This is no lightweight machine. If anything, it's a fairly decent desktop replacement depending on the OS you choose to run. I've been running Ubuntu MATE 16.04 with some eye-candy (Conky, Docky, etc.). I've got Dropbox on it, Libreoffice for Word, Excel, Powerpoint files, Chromium for Google Chrome integration, plus other Linux alternatives to standard Windows software. Speedwise, it's a bit on the slow side due to the processor and the old hard drive, but it does a good job once it's up and kicking. It has a TON of ports (6 USB, PCMCIA, SD, Firewire, VGA, DVI, S-Video - no dongles needed with this puppy), nice clear 17 inch screen, very sturdy construction (no hinge problems like other Dells) and still a decent battery (Sanyo battery that still gets 2.5 to 3 hours depending on the workload). The only real upgrade I want to do at some point is throw in a bigger hard drive or find a way to add an SSD (would need an adapter as the laptop doesn't natively support SATA). Other than that, it's a great unit for modest office/web work as long as your expectations of speed and storage aren't unreasonable. It's well over 10 years old at this point but still quite usable. It will run Win7 pretty nicely (haven't tried 8 or higher though) so you won't be totally left in the cold if you do need a Windows install. I prefer Linux for older systems like this but you wouldn't be disappointed with 7 as your daily OS.Read full review

This is a good starter computer and nothing more. I only have one issue as I have upgraded everything on it, I have installed windows 7, maxed out the memory and I have a 256 Video card. I replaced the CPU with 2.13 and with the Processor being a Pentium M you will get a system lag when running any programs. I love the large screen. When you run the system rating the max you get is a 1.5 for the processor. So I gave this computer to my 13 year old he is happy with it. Also the HDD is a IDE drive. I would recommend a Dell D620 for much better performance and it has a Sata HDD. Still over all not a bad laptop. Only one flaw to me.
This Dell 9300 Laptop is a workhorse! The built in wi-fi card allows me to surf the web from my backyard while lounging in my patio chair with complete security, due to my wireless router box. And the large 17" screen lets me view DVD's and streaming videos with clarity and the built in speakers produce sound crisp and clear. And the media controls are on the front panel of this laptop are illuminated, allowing great access in darkened rooms. I like the easy to use Windows XP operating system and the 80 Gb hard drive storage, plus this Dell Inspiron 9300 has 2 USB ports on the left side panel and 4 on the rear, making a total of 6 USB ports and the DVD RW/ CD RW burner drive spins at an impressive 5,200 RPM's allowing for error free viewing of all media you load and flawless burns of your media. I would recommend this Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop to anyone needing serious media power and web surfing ease.Read full review
