I've purchased more than a few of these headphones over the years...these and other Sony versions. They've all had very nice response, if a little heavy on the bass. Some consider this accurate response, and I don't say it isn't. I've come to consider these as good studio headphones, and I think you will, too. They are comfortable, light weight, and are very good quality. What I don't like about these is the small wires going to each phone. They are made that way to facilitate the folding of the headphones, to carry them in the included soft pack. These wires also slide through the headband, so you can make them fit your head. All of this is good, but what I don't like about it is these wires are small and become fragile, over time. The insulation cracks and the wire inside can short or break. They don't remain flexible and that makes the headphones susceptible to breakage. If one of those wires breaks, one side of the headphones stops working. Also, the pads are very flexible and quite comfortable, but the "plastic?" coating wears off too fast. Sure, you can get replacement pads, but I've got other brand headphones that have longer lasting pads. The problem is, those headphones don't have the same frequency response as the MDR-V6. These issues do lessen the quality of the headphones. Those wires getting brittle and breaking are the only reason I've had to replace them. But, even with these issues, I still keep purchasing these headphones. I like them enough to keep spending money on them. I do wish that Sony would do something to make those wires not become so brittle over time, and maybe make the coating on the pads thicker or longer lasting in some way.Read full review

The Sony MDR-V6 Headphones came out back in the 1980s and I don't understand why Sony chose to discontinue them as they have a slightly 'flatter' frequency response than the MDR-7506 Headphones which are still in-production. Physically the MDR-V6 Headphones appear identical to the MDR-7506 Headphones so whatever the differences are must be minor internal 'tweaks'. I find the MDR-V6 Headphones to be slightly more pleasant to use than the MDR-7506 Headphones as I believe the music has a more natural sound.

I now prefer my Audio-Technica AT-7 set: better finish, slightly better comfort, slightly smoother sound, especially bass. Which is all there in both cases, just alittle cleaner in the A-Ts. Comfort is subjective, but both pass my test: can I sleep on my side wearing either pair. Both are very comfy in that situation. Since a lot of this comes down to taste, think of the Sony as a great value that is the industry standard; the 7s just a more contemporary presentation, especially for looks and quality of materials. But double the price. If open air headphones would work for you, consider Grado, Phillips, or Beyerdynamics.

You find these cans in many recording studios. Reason being they are quite brutal at revealing what is actually happening in your audio. So are they good for listening to music? IF you have very good quality, well mixed and mastered music...in other words, no CD's from the '80's :) then the huge frequency response from these headphones will give you a revealing and very accurate representation of your music. Sometimes this is a good thing, sometimes not so much I use them for editing audio for which they are perfect. They are a legend amongst headphones and for the price and comfort they are perfect for work. If your music sounds good on these then your music will sound good anywhere! There is not much point in giving a long and detailed review as there are already many out there, plus these are in essence designed for Audio Engineers as a work horseRead full review

This Sony brand, MDR-V6 headset model has been time tested by professionals for a score of years. Even with all of the post-modern digital upgrades to various media playing sources, this headset is professional grade, it's so versatile. One of the great benefits of buying the new but older model is that the cost is much lower than newer models; however, the quality of sound is exquisite. I use mine for both academic digital video sound monitoring while I am filming since the jack is standard size and fits right into my JVC digital camcorders. But, inside my home, I can also plug this headset right into the jack of my television and have the equivalent of surround sound without anyone but me hearing it since the ear covers cover my entire ear and are very well cushioned for both comfort and blocking in the sound I want and blocking out the sound I don't want to hear. By the way, even eBayers sell inexpensive extensions to fit universal size headset plugs so that an individual can walk a whole house while listening. You can't do that with cordless headsets that go out of range~Read full review
I received a pair as a present, found them to be outstanding in sound quality! I also use them when I play my digital piano with vocals, again sound quality is outstanding. Sooooo, when I needed a second pair- what did I order- well the Sony MDR-V-6! You can't go wrong with these headphones! RHM

I got my first pair of these when I was a teenager back in 1985. They were soo much better than just about everything else I tried in the store; back then we had Hi-Fi specialty stores, you could listen to all the different headphones they had until you found the thing you wanted. I tried almost all of them and kept going back to these until I was able to buy them with about 2 weeks of my saved up summer job money (remember this was year 1985.) Since then, I have had many different pairs of headphones, I still have the audiophile bug and own 3 different examples of the $300.00 or so noise canceling jobbers. The Bose, Able Planet and Monster headphones I have are all top choice products. if you are traveling on a plane they are great but they never satisfied me when I was on the ground where I could focus on the music. When I saw these were still in production (in production for 30+ years) I ordered another pair, when they came I couldn't find much difference between the new ones and the ones I had 30 years ago, when I put them on, their performance hadn't changed either. I got the clear, accurate, uncolored, detailed musical headphone experience that fascinated me as a kid. For listening to music even in somewhat noisy environments, these headphones are hard to beat!Read full review

I have been an ebay buyer for a very long time, I have a small at home internet radio station and I have about 3 to 5 guests with me at the studio from time to time, I needed and extra set of headphones for one of my guest seats so I decided to get a same pair that I already had 3 other sets of, the Sony MDR-V6 Headphones. As many ebay shoppers do I typed in the make and model of the headphones and choose (price lowest first) I found a pair for about 10 dollars cheaper than the others and bought them, they took a little longer to get here but I didn't care due to the money I was saving. When they arrived they seemed to have been packaged OK, but after I opened them I was a bit suspicious as the headphone case didn't look like genuine leather like my others did...it had a cheap imitation look. After taking the headphones completely out of the packaging I also had noticed that the cord to the headphones was considerably shorter than my other pair(s). The truth was about to unfold when I plugged them and listened to them.....Immediately I could tell that were NOT genuine Sony MDR-V6 Headphones....the sound was muddy and flat compared to my other three pair that I had plugged in at my studio. It was then when I decided to go back to ebay and look at the Sony MDR-V6 Headphone listings again....This time I chose (price highest first) when I did that I saw "BEWARE OF FAKES FROM HONG KONG AND CHINA" That was exactly what I had gotten, It was then when I left my feedback which was negative of coarse. I relieved 2 seperate emails from the buyer begging me to remove my negative feedback. I told them if they sent me a genuine pair of Sony MDR-V6 Headphones I would return these FAKES and remove my negative feedback. I never heard from the buyer again. I have had far more good experiences on Ebay than bad, but when someone tries to sell me a cheap brand of headphones with a SONY name tag on it....You can bet your bottom dollar they're going to hear from me...and not in a good way! I have used the Sony V6 years ago and I am glad they are still available. The only issue is that the ear pads need replacement over years of use. The sound is clean, no muddy bass, no over emphasized mid range and clean pure highs with no shrillness. You can buy the "other brands" for $300 or more but none will sound better. This is why still today in the Recording Studios' they are still number one.

Coming out of radio broadcasting college in the mid-90s, these were top of the line. It's 2017 and they just now began to fizz out on the right side. No problems before though. Excellent sound, comfortable, quick to set up and quick to put away. My only complaint is that after a couple years of heavy use, the plastic (fake leather) covering on the ear pads began to flake off, and when I lowered them around your neck, it looked like I did a bad job of shaving (flakes stuck to neck). Other than that, great headphones! I'm actually on here now because I'm looking for a replacement set.
