Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V 18.2MP Digital Camera - Black

This camera, with it's optical steadyshot, Exmor R BSI sensor and 20x zoom, you should have no problem shooting great videos and pictures. Set to the highest setting (28m AVCHD 60P) the video image is very sharp and the color is on point. On downside is the apature is only f3.5 so low light video does suffer over a camera or camcorder that would have a f1.8 lens. Other then that this is a great choice for excellent video/pictures on a budget.

Great camera , takes amazing pictures , but the lens cover sticks partially closed without help opening it.

I bought the camera as a gift, mostly for the big zoom capabilities. It is our second camera, alongside a rugged Olympus that has limited zoom, but excellent quality. The quality of pictures on the Sony HX20V is poor. When zooming in the pixels to 1:1 it is all grainy, even in low ISO. And it fails in comparison to when looking at 1:1 zoom-in of our tough Olympus (bare in mind the tough Olympus is meant to be tough and not high quality, but it still beats the Sony). On the plus side, the Sony has a whole lot of features. We like to play around with the different HDR functions. The videos are excellent, back-light correction is interesting, and sweep panoramas are a treat (the Olympus for ex. doesn't have that feature).
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V is a good little camera for those who just want a point and shoot camera. For those who ask for more control over shooting parameters, perfect images and for commercial use, this Sony is not the right camera for you. The absence of RAW image ability and the small sensor makes this camera a good but not great camera. Yes, It has 18.2 mega pixels. That is not going to insure a great image. The sensor is just too small for the 18.2 mega pixels. It does an OK job via processing but not the best quality that is possible with a larger sensor. The camera has a problem with being too warm (red cast)on certain colors especially yellows. The image can be adjusted in photoshop to correct the red cast, but it is there so you know. The small image sensor also causes the image to be pixelated at larger views and if the image is cropped and blown up. Not a problem if the image is for the internet or for screen viewing at full size. But it is still an issue for those who want the most image for photoshop manipulation. Shooting in bright light is a problem. The high pixel screen is nice and sharp. But it is not able to be seen in really bright light. The image on the screen is totally washed out when the sun hits it. The GPS is nice and works well. Better than some of the previous attempts at putting GPS in a camera. It is useful for keeping a record of where the image was shot. The flash is in a place where your left index finger will be in the way if flash is needed. It does take some getting used to but after that, it becomes less a problem. If you are looking for a camera that is going to be able to make shots for family and friends shots, this is the camera for you. If you are looking for a camera for videos, especially for you Tube, this is the camera for you. If you are looking for a camera for making stills for products for selling on say, E-bay, this is an excellent camera for that. If you are in the real estate business, this camera would be excellent for that. If you are looking for perfect images that have sharp edges and great color, then you need a good DSLR. I really like this camera for what it is. It does excellent video and for shots that require macro, it is really exceptional. I will be keeping this camera even with its faults because there are few point and shoot cameras that are close to perfect. If fits in my pocket well and is not big at all. That being said, the Sony DSC-HX20V is one of the better point and shoot cameras at its price point for those who want a simple point and shoot with excellent video capabilities.Read full review
I am very pleased with the camera to this point. I haven't used it extensively yet, but have taken over 200 shots. The quality is very good. I purchased this camera to take to Europe in July so I can document my travels. My wife uses the larger Nikon with several lens, but for our trip I didn't want to load us down. This camera was refurbished, but it looks and performs as new. The package was the only clue that this camera may have been used. The only drawback is that I have to get used to holding the camera differently, because of where the pop-up flash is located. Great small camera with all the perks!
