Bought this lens for our Nikon 5300 as we were going on safari and wanted closer pictures of the animals. After some searching online this seemed like the best product for the job at a reasonable price. We are amateurs and just enjoy taking the photos on auto mode mainly. This has been a great addition to the camera and we took some fantastic photographs. Clear image and quick to auto focus unlike so other reviewers we did not find it too noisy or blurred. Glad we purchased this lens!

Looking forward to using this lens with my Nikon 5300. Regrettably auto focus absolutely rubbish and manual focus just as bad. Very disappointed with it. Will try again before sticking it in a charity bag. Total waste of money.

Excellent value for money but I had to give it 4 stars only because it doesn't go near enough to the subject as I anticipated. If you need it for bird photography then you have to scoop up more money to get something much more powerful. The same goes for macro photography, in order to get the insect magnified to a good size, you need specialized equipment, don't expect miracles from this one as you will be disappointed. The Tamron A17 70-300 is otherwise of exceptional quality for this price - a real bargain. To a beginner like me, it's a real find and it gives you the time to experiment in new areas until you are ready to take it to a higher level. As for filters, you have to buy a new set as the ones fitting the Nikon will be too small - not a major inconvenience but I wish I'd known and bought something that fits directly to the camera body instead of lenses.Read full review
I was a little bit concerned having owned some high end gear, but this lens is an absolute pleasure. It's light which means it gets used, image quality and focussing are more than adequate. A tip when attaching and removing lens hood, switch to manual focus, extend zoom and hold lens barrel to avoid strain on autofocus mechanism. Great buy, although not truly a macro 1:2 ratio is great with the 300mm end allowing some great shots of wildlife at just under a metre distance.

I've only managed to use it once so far, as the weather has been so foul.
