I'd been wanting a simple surround sound system for a while, and decided to take a chance on a refurbished system. I noticed that several previous buyers all had excellent experiences with their units, and the prices ranged from 50% to 70% of the price of a new unit. Anyway, I was lucky enough to get my system for $200; a whopping 60% off the price of new! I could barely find the blemishes the seller mentioned in the ad, and they are definitely not visible as installed, nor, is the performance affected in any way. The system is great, was super easy to install, and calibrates for your speaker placement automatically. You don't need to be a tech wizard to connect it to your home network, and once you do, you avail yourself of a number of other online entertainment options -- Netflix, Vudu, Hulu, etc. Plus, I can stream music from my computer and/or smart phone directly thru the system, wirelessly. As for the sound, it is fantastic! Movies and tv shows come to life. When I watched Battle for Los Angeles, the bullets seemed to be whizzing around the room -- it was awesome. Unlilke a normally audio system with pre-amp controls, there are no tone adjustments. Seems to work okay. My older unit (exact same model) was having issues with sound not always coming on. It was 15 years old though. I love the Sony Blu-ray Home Theater which has unfortunately been discontinued, so no brand new models are available. I didn’t need new speakers, I just reused the ones that I already had.

Only one word that I have to say here. Excellent.. Before I buy it, I was bored at home,I only had my Sony tv, no cable, I was listening the radio on my phone.but since I bought my Sony home theater system, I don't even have time to look at the movie on the tv channel, or any music thing because it had everything.next day,I went to buy my clear spot wifi, and,I can watch movies on Netflix, listen music, video, go on Pandora,Facebook.this thing has everything, I say everything.... Thank you guys, thank you so much.
Set up was easy. After reading material I was able to navigate the various screens and use the remote. The rear surround speakers failed to utter any sound. The four front speakers sound good. I called Sony support and we trouble shooted the unit. The problem was not the speakers, but either the rear amplifier or main unit. The complete unit including speakers is going back for repair.
