Pros: easy to use, decent quality photos, use in most lighting conditions, auto adjusts to lighting conditions, fits in pocket or purse, no flash needed. Cons: company is defunct so no support or updates are available, controls are difficult to see because they are touch only and are same color as rubberized screen surround (I painted the zoom function white to make it easier to find), it takes a long time to fully charge, it does not work well with Windows 32 bit (Windows 64 bit works like a charm). My overall opinion: I like this camera. It is as easy to use as a point and shoot model without the bulk. I can use it with one hand. It has a wrist strap so there is little fear of me dropping it. I do not have to carry spare batteries around with me for the flash. Fits easily into my pants or jacket pocket. I do not have to fumble with zoom or aperture controls to get a quick snapshot. A frequent and/or professional photographer always has their camera at the ready. This means a camera about the neck and the other associated paraphernalia in pockets or bags. This is not me. I’ve lost many photos because the subjects have left the pose or the moment has passed while I was getting my other camera in focus or otherwise ready. With the Lytro, out of the pocket, turn it on, point and shoot. For the money I paid, this is a pretty good deal and for me covers most circumstances. I have a smart phone, a digital camera, and a couple of 35mm film cameras an this is the one I use most.Read full review

The company no longer supports this camera. You need their desktop software to download the images from the camera to your computer. You can use a (App) and upload to the cloud... and I don't know how that works, as I have not done that, and the pictures become public .... There software is not backward compatible, so if you don't have a new Mac, running a certain GPU you can not run their software... and all that means nothing as there is no longer any support for the retail consumer.. so you have a nice looking paper weight. On the plus side, if you do have a computer that supports the software the camera takes about 400 pics at a time. It recharges from a usb cable. Once you understand the controls it is an easy camera to use, as you don't focus it as such...

It does take pictures. Zoom in automatic mode is Max X5.5 and in artistic mode Max X8. Software - only by download (No CD) and only installs to c:program files. No way to install elsewhere. In the software - problems determining where it will put the pics imported from the camera. Only (again) to C:\users\\My pictures. Hopefully this will change so it can be installed where you want and import pictures to where YOU determin. No arragement for tripod use and no flash or external flash connection. Also even though there is a self timer, there is no remote controller (wired or wireless). On the website - guidance only for the well over $1000 new model (2nd generation. The reviewed one is 1st generation and costs around $130 - new from Lytro store). For smartphone - only application for iphone. The lens cover is very good. Magnetic and clicks it in place. A very nice lens cover. Bottom line - does take photos, but stability wasn't thought of and the software needs a lot of work to become something more advanced computer users (With more than C: drive and where C: is only used for system stuff) can use without occupying the system drive with large photography material.Read full review
This is a very small unit - easy to take with you, just slip it in a pocket. The onboard storage lets you take loads of photos, and the battery lasts for days. It's really easy to operate, although getting my head around taking photos with a view to depth of field took me a while. Because you look through it like a telescope, it's not that easy to use if you want to get a low angle, but that's true for other fixed viewfinder cameras. I haven't got an iOS device, so I can't use the wifi connection. Depth of field photographs, and the ability to refocus after the photo has been taken, are amazing. It's changed my approach to photography.

I purchased this camera to play with the technology. They are way overpriced if you buy them new, so used was a great option. The screen is tiny and is basically useless. The lens cover is held on, barely, by magnets and comes off in my pocket or bag before it even gets all the way in. The technology is fascinating and works pretty well. Unless a major player like instagram starts using the technology so people can post pictures to their feed and followers can play with focusing the pictures for themselves, it's not going to catch on and is doomed to be a relic that we will see in 10 years on a "Remember the 20-teens" show along with bluetooth headsets and other junk.
The camera is a easy to use point and shoot camera. It uses it's own software to produce the image on a P.C. that you can then display on Facebook 3D tv and mobile apps. The camera is for people interested in 3D photography and may take a little while to get the best from it.

Solid camera, although you will need to use an older version of windows and will have to download the image editing software off of a lytro forum as lytro has gone out of buisness. Great piece of camera history and a fun camera to play around with, just beware of the difficulties related to using an outdated camera.

I always wanted this camera. I finally got one. It exceeded my wildest expectation. It is such an engineering marvel. Thank you, Lytro!

The Lytro Red is an interesting device. Cons: It can't be slipped into a pocket as it is bulky and heavy unlike my Nokia phone. It is limited to non-print as the resolution of the images is quite low. Pros: It does what it says and allows for a very different aspect of photography. Being able to shift the focal point after taking the image is very interesting and useful (at times)
