A lot of people give this unit a bad review, but that's probably because most reviews are given only when something goes wrong. So I guess it's a problem for some with the over heating but has not happened to me. As far as having to reset the modem all the time, your problem is the keep-alive feature. In PPPoE mode set it to dial every 30 sec. I have Qwest / Centurylink in Boulder Colorado at 7Mbps using ADSL2+ Has same speed test rating with WPA2 on or off and the only draw back is the the Wi-Fi signal could be a little stronger but it's strong enough to cover all of my little split level house. Now I get 7.5Mbps on ethernet and 7.3Mbps on Wi-Fi but I only ever got 7.1Mbps Ethernet & 6.1Mbps with the actiontec dsl modem with b/g Wi-Fi I had from the telephone company 7 years ago.

This product can not be used as Modem in Venezuela. You can use it only as Router. The main internet provider (CANTV) in Venezuela do not accept this device because they don't distribute this product.

Its a great router. Its definitely better than the other netgear router that I have. I'm not saying Ciscos are better than netgear. I had a netgear which was really snappy fast. But cost wise, the refurb version of the cisco ($25 I bought for) is better than the similar netgear my ISP gave me. The best part is, it works on ADSL2+ as well as works as a wifi router. I bought it mainly for my home in India, where we use ADSL2+ connection (ISP- BSNL). Set up is weird though, you need a CD-ROM drive on your machine and need to use the CD that comes with the product. I dislike that feature, a simple router address and configuring through browser is what I prefer. Anyway, in all, a good piece and I do recommend it IF, you need an ADSL2+ connection.
If you are looking for an all in one wireless device which supports either DSL or cable, it sounds perfect. Some were disappointed with WiFi coverage and easy setup security but I disagree with them. For network coverage, it covers a flat or office completely but obviously if you want more you have to buy a network extender which created professionally as a booster. Some say the web interface of setup is very slow, it is true but by upgrading the firmware to 2.0.1 it will be solved. Another problem that some reported is, when you install Cisco Connect Setup Software on the PC or laptop it becomes admin and so you have access to setup via Cisco application (without password) and this means you should not install the easy setup software on every system. Totally I believe this wireless modem is great but a little bit expensive !!Read full review
As the Linksys brand slowly recedes into the distance and the Cisco brand takes prominence, we have the Cisco Linksys X2000. It's a basic modem/router following the same design cues as the company's previous "UFO"-shaped routers, although this time comes in a matte black, rather than glossy black and blue. You can choose to set up guest internet access, of course, and just give someone the password, but this prevents access to local network resources. I strongly recommend you toss the CD as a result, and set things up manually through the web interface
