This is the second one of this model that I've bought The first one, bought new in 2005, is just plane worn out. What I like is that it is very efficient on battery use - I also have other brands that go through batteries very quickly, 4 to 6 hours but in this one they last 18 to 24 hours. Plus the sound quality is great and I can't complain about the quality. It has very good bump protection, I've never had it skip when bumped. I give it 4 stars because the design isn't really that good. The battery compartment is inside the case under the disc itself (you have to remove the cd to change batteries). This wouldn't be that big of a deal to me but the batt. cover is in an awkward place and it's difficult for me even with small fingers to get the damn things out - I've always been irritated by this The other thing that I find fault with is the program buttons for replay, shuffle and such are so damn tiny that I can't see what it's for and it's SO easy to hit it unintentionally so when I listen to a book on tape it sometimes jumps from chapter 10 to chapter 3 because I can't see on the LCD screen the little designation. And the LCD is way too small. All in all it's the best portable cd player I've ever owned.Read full review

This was and always will be my favorite walkman. I owned a silver one but it scratched overtime and read 'No disc error'. I have no idea why...But this little device is great to listen to Cds with. The sound quality is amazing omg. Im so happy to have a black one now. The only cons are it gets scratches, uses alot of AA batteries. Otherwise the best walkman ever.

Sound Quality:Excellent particulaly with decent phones. The phones that come with the item are junk but unit plays great with Sony earbuds and should work good with other decent phones. Transport Mech: excellent Icons like fast forward, skip tracks etc are black on black instead of a lighter color on the black surround of the player It is very inconvenient to see the icons without a flashlight. Battery compartment very inconvenient to load. Memory of tracks can drive you mad if you do not know what you are doing. Mega bass(sound 2) sounds too artificial but sound 1 is fine and correctly equalized. Clamshell should open all the way; very inconvenient opening partially like a clam at the beach. There is a severe lack of convenience engineering on this device.
Bought this used because Sony no longer makes it. I listen to audio books from the library and wore out or broke lots of these players. All the other brands are lousy. This is the only one that starts where you left off if you turn it off or the battery dies. I paid $30 incl shipping. Can't imagine I'd ever pay more than that for this product.

Great sound. Sturdy construction.Holds the last place the CD was stopped so you don't have to try to find where you were when you stopped the audio CD book last. Other brands don't do this. This device does not run down batteries as fast as other makes. Batteries last 3 times longer. I have had this model in the past and other makes just don't live up to this Sony product. I was so disappointed when Sony stopped making it. I looked all over for one for the past several years. So happy to fine this one on EBAY.

I like everything about this unit... ALMOST. It's light, sound is good, the anti-skip is pretty reliable. BUT: getting batteries out for replacement is always a bit of a pain, due to where the battery compartment is... right under the hinge where the unit opens and closes. Annoying, to say the least. Also it doesn't like CD's that have even minor blemishes... so sometimes it just jams. But largely it's a good, reliable little thing. Probably the best for its price.

This Walkman is perfectly sized for easy portability. Sound is great. Only drawback is in the design for the battery compartment. There just isn't much space between the lid and base to get your hands in there, so inserting and replacing batteries is slightly challenging. I've found that if I use a "tool", in my case I use a letter opener, but a pencil, or small screwdriver would probably also work, I can pry the batteries out without too much trouble. Otherwise, this is great!

i have owned 3 portable CD players and this is by far the best. Unfortunately, I don't believe Sony is making portable CD's anymore so to get one you have to pay a pretty penny compared to what else is out there. However, in my opinion it's worth it since the sound quality is great (You can choose different sound levels including accentuated base tones.) and comes through crystal clear through the ear phones provided. Unlike a lot of other CD's, this one does not skip and is unaffected by being bounced around while walking or running. Its controls are on the side of the machine so they tend not to get bumped by your movements when you're on the go. Battery life seems to be reasonably good for a portable CD although batteries run out of juice quickly with all portable CD players which was a disappointment to me when i first started using them. All in all this is a very good brand of CD and, if you can get one for a reasonable price, it's well worth forking over the money to get it.Read full review

I bought this CD player as it meets my needs. I especially enjoy the player picking up where it left off after a battery change or just having to stop it for a time. Sure beats having to search for where you were. I have been spoiled having used this player for many years. I hope Sony plans to keep it in thier line. The only suggestion I would make is having the battery compartment located on the bottom of the unit. This would allow me not to have to handle the CDs any more than necessary. The unit is a good size and fits into most of my pockets. The location of the control buttons are easy to remember which one does what. Thanks Sony for a great CD player. Most sincerely, Mrs. Betty Jean Chambers
I've used this cd player brand for years but it is no longer available new. The one I just bought works great.
