By all the means, this is a great product. It's not a tablet, it's not a smartphone, it is a completely different things, its a Kindle. Been myself a person who travels a lot, and having plenty time to work and to little to enjoy, I found that I can select and read an entire book, learn about my hobbies and specialized reading interests, with out depending of having an electric outlet near. The Kindle allows me that, having a lot to read, as if I had a full pack of books on my backpack, all in one place, and with WiFi to access to the web when I need it, as if it was a tablet or smartphone. The Pros I have found using it: 1) Small, easy to carry 2) Good storage capacity, taking into account that we will carry text instead of heavy media files 3) Easy to use, more simple than a tablet, with touchscreen, and simplified characteristics 4) Good browser, something I didn't expected in a ebook reader, I used it to reserve hotels and to check-in a couple of flights 5) Great battery duration, I charged it almost 1 month ago, using not much wifi, but reading a lot, still has half charge. The Cons: 1) Small screen. The full potential of this eink technology will be when we can use it as a full newspaper reader, or web-based news reader, lets say, a A4 size would be the summum 2) Not full support of PDF. I read a lot of books in PDF, but the browser does not allows me to download this format. To read PDFs with images, the screen becomes a little tricky to handle, zooming and passing pages when not required. 3) Browser not fully developed, still as an experimental app. Note that as a ereader, having a browser is just a bonus point. 4) Being a Linux based software, Amazon arranged to lock all the potential of a (grey screen) tablet (I think its just me) 5) It could have simple apps (Checklists for example) Finalizing, in a time where everything has to be charged each several hours, I was expecting a ereader (almost a Casio calculator) but I received a tablet (it is), with a long lasting battery, I like to think that its a PDA with a battery duration of months. It makes one think if making things simpler, its better, we can loss some apps and have a great tool. Right now Im using it as a motorcycle shop manual to learn how to adjust the valves of my motorcycle (on a Zip bag obviously).Read full review

It will not connect to the Kindle store. Looking at the home screen all the icons appear correct but after reboot and switching Wi-Fi networks still does not work.

I bought this kindle for myself. I finally decided to try an e-reader for a couple of reasons. When I travel, I no longer have to take a stack of books with me, I can take them all in this one little device. I also like the ability to change the font and size of the print -- this is very nice now that reading small print is becoming more of a challenge for me. This kindle does not have a built in light, but that's ok, I read in bed with a lamp on my bedside stand as it is, so this is not a problem. Since I got my kindle for an exceptionally good price, I am willing to continue turning my lamp on and off. I read a number of reviews and talked to people who had different kindles before purchasing this kindle. I was more concerned with getting some basic functional features and a good price. I did read a review that said it is slower at turning pages than a newer model. That may be true if you are doing a side by side comparison, but when using this kindle, you don't notice it. When the 4G is on, it does use the battery up faster, but it is very easy to go into settings to turn the 4G off if you don't need to use it. I am very satisfied with this product.Read full review
It is an excellent e-reader, and particularly affordable with the special offers option. It features both portrait and landscape modes for reading, inbuilt dictionaries, text-to-speech reading, MP3 player, even a basic web browser. The usability is excellent and the controls are quite intuitive. I have only one problem with it: the indexing of books sometimes stops or freezes for no reason. This makesit difficult to navigate through all the books on the Kindle, and to use the search function reliably. Indexing also happens without notification and at random, which can drain quite a bit of your battery if you don't keep an eye on it. I hope this gets fixed in a future software update from Amazaon.
The display is great, the visible design is good, and the price is awesome. However there are issues to address. First of all the device contains and infrared touch screen for some mysterious reason which makes it fat comparing to Kindle 4. It's a bit heavier and wider as well. No built-in light is also an issue. The solution is to buy a very expensive Amazon cover case that costs almost as the device itself. And all this is just for a flashlight that allows you to read in dark (you can't bring light with you everywhere can you?) Finally, the OS is very slow as well. And that's not about the display that refreshes slowly out of physical reasons. Every operation takes more time that the display needs to refresh. Sometimes up to 3-4 seconds. And if you are to "unlock" and use browser, it'll hung Kindle a lot. So the hardware must be really cheap. Despite those issues it's good to keep the device in hand and to read books on a beautiful display.Read full review
I like to read, and i travel 2 hours/day, so i decided to buy a kindle touch. I like it couse it has clear, and sharp screen, i can see the text easily in the most of light condition. It has a fast cpu to process the document pages, and the page flipping is quick enough. but it isn't a "perfect" reader.. i had a sony prc300, which could read the RTF document type, but the kindle can't without conversion. and the official conversion works only online, by amazon. It is true, the kindle is much faster than the sony prs 300 ;c) after all, it worth it's price :c)
This is my second Kindle Touch, purchased for my husband because of how much I love mine! I'm sure there've been improvements with e-ink, but this little guy does great. It's responsive, the battery lasts several weeks, it holds hundreds of books...my only criticism of it was that the screen isn't lit. The Kindle lighted case was the best solution for me--compact, lights the screen effectively and doesn't require an outside power source. I don't even notice a difference with my Kindle battery life. Mine has the ads and AT&T 3G, which I've appreciated when I've been sitting on the beach. I was also able to use the web browser to read emails, but I've not tried that since having a smart phone. I actually LIKE seeing the ads. My recent purchase is wifi only without ads. This is great too. While I've only used the Read-to-Me feature a few times, I wanted my husband to have the same option. The reading voice uses some inflection and is easy to understand. I've not loaded and MP3s on mine, but I still like have that option. PROS: Comfortable size and weight Touch screen for page turning is simple Can do text to speech on any publication Choice of font size Able to load MP3's Can connect to car audio for reading or MP3 playback Long battery life-several weeks The Kindle brand lighted case works great CONS: No built-in back screen light Limited font choices No color options I highly recommend this older version Kindle, especially with a Kindle brand lighted case. I don't plan to upgrade until all the same features are offered again, at a reasonable price, with a backlight. Read full review

The Kindle Touch has had some outstanding reviews, deservedly so in my opinion as I've been the happy owner of one since Christmas (acquired through eBay)and have read several books already using this device. My family argued as to why I would need it, given I've been reading books on my iPad for the past two years and on other pocket PC devices earlier than that. Simply put, this is a better reading experience. It is smaller, light weight and easy to read in normal (and outside) light. I also use a clip on light for reading at night - works well with the right one. In addition, it is simply to add books to your device, simply drag and drop mobi format books using whatever file manager you have on your PC/Mac. I commute daily and read when I do, thus this is the perfect device. I would only recommend it for reading 'paperbacks', the iPad is still a significantly better device for consuming news via the web or apps, as well as reading magazines (pdf's). The Kindle can browse the web, but I'd only use it as a last resort. Overall it is a great device, but with one caveat. Amazon will only sell this device in North America, thus if you want one, the best avenue to buy it is through eBay. This also goes for all the specific accessories that are purpose made for it and this is a right pain as some of the best ones can't or are difficult to find other than on Amazon. The Amazon branded leather case (whilst pricey) is outstanding, but had to be acquired through even more roundabout ways.Read full review
I commute to work 1 hour each morning and evening. I use the text to speech feature thru the AUX jacks in the car. I use to scan radio stations or listen to music and feel like I had just wasted 2 hours a day, now I listen to my Kindle and he has read 40 books to me in the past 11 months. I don't leave home without it. My husband, who hadn't read a book for years, also purchased one and reads constantly while traveling. Having the capability to carry 1000 books in one little package is awesome. I still keep and update my hardcover library for nite reading because there is nothing like the feel of a good book. But the Kindle has expanded my reading capabilities immensely. Several of the new Kindles offered have eliminated or made it more difficult to use the Text to speech, that would be a deal breaker for me. The ease of downloading the books, the small size for travel, and the text to talk is the beauty of the Kindle. It is AWESOME!!Read full review
Kindle Touch is a very useful product. Reading is maybe less eye flickering than reading from a book. But it is not accepting word documents which is annoying. When resizing the letters in pdf documents, you can not flip pages. You will need to convert pdf files to .prc or sth. else to flip pages after resizing letters. After converting some info like tables, charts or maybe text in jpg format inside pdf, will be gone. You will not be sure if a info i missing in your .prc file. But as i mentioned, when it comes to reading for 3 hours nonstop, it is a perfect machine which does its primary job well. This machine is for plain reading. You can also read websites in article mode (click top right button for article mode). So text will spread all to screen and get easy to read. Text will be collected from the website and be shown to you as text document.Read full review
