I read a review stating that the "smart" chargers often fail to fully charge rechargeable batteries and often fail to charge batteries that have drained too low. The reviewer stated that by using an older charger, such as a Rayovac PS3 , which is not a smart charger, batteries can be charged up to a "full" charge and batteries thought to be used up can be brought back to life. We had several "C" cells that appeared to no longer be chargeable in our smart charger, but the Rayovac PS3 brought them back to a full charge. As such, this charger will pay for itself in saving batteries that were thought to be worthless.
