A few years ago, I owned one of these, bought new. It worked decently. After several months I gave it to my Son. After a few years his kids trashed it, and he gave it back. I bought a replacement body, same vintage. It was slow to start up and run smoothly, but after a few days it was running normal. Focus is dependable. Exposure is accurate. It runs best in aperture priority mode. Manual is a bit cumbersome due to everything being tied to the menu. I am getting good work from the V1, and 10 mp is adequate for most of the subjects I use it on. I am tempted to look into the newer units that record 20 mp. We'll see. My SLR is a D800e, and it spoils me with great quality work. However, the V1 is easy to pack around. I think the V1 is a fine car camera for everyday use to have something with you. Used V1's are much cheaper than they were, new, a few years ago. 10 mp makes a decent 8x10 most of the time. So, $150.00 for this used body has been a good investment. The zoom lens gives me more flexibility than the fixed lens camera I was using before I took on this venture. The fixed lens camera is a Fuji X100. I like its image quality, but it is a little slow focusing. I am tempted to convert the Fuji to black and white infrared. Spendy task, but a portable IR (pocket size) will be a nice item to have. So far this V1 is doing a good job. Glad to have it back in the gear bag.Read full review

The camera appeared to be new except for the broken battery compartment access door. I confused it with several other Nikon1's is was looking at and missed the broken battery compartment door otherwise I wouldn't have purchased this camera.

This camera has up to 60 frames per second with an electronic shutter. Very hard to miss a sequence when shooting street photography. You can purchase a flash that uses the cameras power to use their dedicated flash. But, you can only shoot one photo at a time with it attached. A GPS unit can attached also, but it uses the same hot shoe. So, you have only one choice to use the flash or GPS if desired. The V1 is a step up from the J1 . Because it has a view finder you can be more precise in using manual focus...it's a good camera for the money

this is one example where persons who want to make some buck on you tube testing all sorts of things which they actually never used can thumb down a product. This is a camera that is on par with a much more expensive DSLR in most shooting conditions. It sure has it quirks - like any but the most expensive cameras out there and the quirk of those is the price - but in most conditions this is a camera that delivers excellent shots in the hands of people who know how to handle it and appreciate a very compact and stealthy camera which can be used in many ways where a full blown DSLR would be just too much into the subjects face and therefore the shot compromised. It has features almost no other camera has like the ultra rapid shooting rate - accessibility to a fast variety of excellent glass and a tele reach that is almost unmatched (in the same quality). There is absolutely nothing not to like about this camera even though it's low light performance could be better but the grain is nice and sharp and reminds me of film based photography with it's own aesthetic. As a photographer you just deal with it. That's my rant - actually I am thrilled that the majority is not enthused by this line of camera (Nikon1) because one can pick one up nowadays for peanuts. Closest thing to a pro mirrorless lofi camera I could find.. turn up the iso to Hi if you want that digital noise. Pretty good range of adjustments and it can take nice pictures also but the low megapixels mean that cropping in on things doesn't look great.. better to get a lense with more zoom if you want to shoot things from a distance.

The camera takes really good quality pictures. You get what your money is worth. I like the features that came with the camera. Some of the features were a camera strap, the camera len with a cover, a charger with the battery, an instuction book and dvd, a usb cable, and etc.

The camera overall is in good condition, but the EVF has a problem with engagement sometimes.

Image quality declines when ISO over 200 is used. The result is longer than ideal exposure times when shooting wildlife such as birds. The V1 18.5 mm lens is sharper than the kit zoom lens, but costs around $180.

The Nikon 1 V1 is a small and surprisingly capable mirrorless camera!
