Because hummingbirds are attracted to the color red, the base of the feeder is red. A silver band around the top of the glass jar connects to a wire designed to hang the feeder. Alternative feeder for Hummingbirds
The picture and reviews lead you to believe this is the best feeder available. My experience has been different. I do believe it is of good quality. Kind of pricey if you ask me. The birds in my area have used this feeder as an alternative. I have two feeders, one in back and one in front of my home. I have flip flopped feeders from front to back and the little guys still choose my old feeder of a much different style first. As I said, quality is good, style is nice, it is hard to clean though. Would be the best if it had bee guards

It works...no leaks...no more bees.
Threw away my popular feeder after 3-months of use due to leaking and holes so big that bees were able to enter and leave at will. Well? This feeder is great! The holes are small enough preventing bees from entering. And, now I do not get bees attracted to the feeder. Best Feeders
I've been feeding Humming birds here on the Olympic Peninsular for 30+ yrs. I have about 6 that winter over and my migrators; approx. 100+ birds arrive middle March. Over the years I've had all kind of feeders, without a doubt these are the very best; easy the fill, clean and what's important to me is the large size.( You can imagine with this many birds I'm filling feeders quite often) means less filling times. Great feeder for ME but...
I bought two of these for my Father in law. He is elderly and I thought the larger feeders would relieve him of so many trips down steps refilling his small feeders for his quadrillion's of hummingbirds. Turns out these are a little bit heavy for him once they are filled. Plus...he's set in his ways so prefers his older small feeders. Go figure!! Works great but is too big.

The ring with the small holes can be removed as the Hummingbirds do not need to drink out of the small holes. They can be chased by other Hummingbirds and if their beaks are in the small holes at the time, their beaks can become stuck or bent.
