Reviews
"One of King Arthur's knights attempts to design a table around which all of the knights can sit. With his wife, Lady Di of Ameter, and his son, Radius, Sir Cumference experiments with different shapes. Finally, a fallen tree inspires a round table. Geehan's illustrations, particularly the diagrams, help readers understand the geometry. Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi , Sir Cumference and the Great Knight of Angleland , and Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone provide similarly playful introductions to additional topics." -- School Library Journal "Students already familiar with shape principles will get the most out of this punny medieval story in which Sir Cumference, his wife Lady Di of Ameter, and their son Radius try to help King Arthur create the perfect table for his knights. Other Sir Cumference titles deal with angles, the number Pi, and three dimensional shapes." -- Booklinks
This 32 page children's book tells how Sir Cumference, his wife the Lady Di of Ameter, and their son Radius solve the problems of the king's table. King Arthur and his knights needed to have a council, but there was a problem with the table around which they met. It began as too long; after that was fixed, the table had too few sides, and other tables produced more objections. Geo of Metry makes tables in several shapes before a round table solves all the problems. The illustrations are great, with medieval pageantry and geometric explanations. A few other characters from Camelot appear, such as Sir Lancelot and Sir Gawain.
This is a great book to introduce geometry to the young, making it fun and easy. Shapes and measurements are explained in the quest for the perfect council table for the king and his knights. When the round table is finally found to be the perfect shape, the king names certain measurements after Sir Cumference, Radius, and the Lady Di from Ameter. Very cute!Read full review
I purchased this series for use in my middle school math classroom. I teach grades 6-8 and use it in all three as an introduction and as a culminating activity for my unit in Geometry. There are four other books, in this series, dealing with additional Geometry topics. I was introduced to this series as well as other books in a professional development seminar called Missouri Math Academy.
Great little book that reinforces some math/geometry concepts in story form. It's a fun and interesting addition to the regular geometry curriculm. My fourth grader enjoyed the creative story and even referred back to the caracters in the book to clarify some confusion on geometry vocabulary. This book is one of a set of four. It would make a nice gift for a new math teacher!
