The item is exactly as pictured. It is 'industrial strength'- tough material- yet surprisingly light. I've used it to carry moderately heavy items (sledge hammer) and poky items but the padding made it acceptably comfortable. In the two main pockets, there are numerous pockets, like a school backpack inside, really well thought out. On top there is a padded pocket, I keep and extra pair of sunglasses. It is not too big, just right for taking quite a few items on a backpack. It has a clip on the side I used for a machete, it was so convenient. The shoulder straps and the pack are very comfortable and there is a chest strap you can use to stabilize the pack. The zippers are a little touchy but I am hoping they will break in and loosen up. The water bottle pocket is on the side but I found I needed to remove one of the shoulder straps and swing the pack around to grab the bottle. I got tangled up with some poison oak so I thought I better wash it to remove the oils so I wouldn't get re-exposed to it.
