I was looking for an inexpensive student clarinet (I'm a beginner). When I saw the incredibly low price offered for this Selmer CL300, I had to give it a try. The instrument arrived on the estimated delivery date. The case is from Yamaha, but with a used clarinet, that's perfectly fine. The case unlatched with no problems and I was able to assemble the clarinet with only a small amount of cork grease needed. There was already a reed in place in the mouthpiece, so I tried playing a few notes I knew I could do. Even without moistening the reed beforehand, the notes played. Okay, they played poorly, but that's due to my lousy emboucher, not the instrument. As far as I can tell, all the pads seated properly and reset back to their expected locations when I released their keys. The pads look like they still have a lot of life left in them, so I should be able to schedule their replacement far in the future. The sound is deep and dark, especially in the first register. I think I'll have a lot of fun exploring what this horn can do, once I'm more experienced playing it. I'm very pleased with this purchase. So far, the only downsides I've noticed were the cork grease dispenser spreads a bit too easily and the backup reed was chipped, but I'm just nitpicking. I have plenty of reeds in various strengths, so I'll eventually try them all out and see how they perform.Read full review

This is the perfect wood clarinet to start my daughter in band. Her clarinet tutor was very impressed with the overhaul and it plays wonderfully.
