Porter's Salve is a product that has been around for many years. Unfortunately, it is hard to find in drugstores. The last time I purchased it from a drugstore was from a Mom & Pop drugstore and I bought their entire stock (3). My mother discovered this salve back in the 60s when she worked as a seamstress in a mill. Her employer kept this salve in house for when the women would accidentally stick a sewing machine needle in their thumb while sewing. They would pull out the needle and saturate the wound with Porter's Salve and then wrap it in gauze. Within a few hours the pain would be gone. Porter's Salve is a "drawing salve" (meaning that it will literally draw the soreness out of a wound). We've been keeping some handy ever since Mom's working days. Dressing a wound with it will heal much better than using Neosporen. It's also good for soreness. I used it for cold sores on my lips because it cures them in a day or two. The stuff STINKS, but I can tolerate a bad odor if it does the job as well as this product does. Highly recommended!!!! It's also good for infected areas.Read full review

I was so eager to get this product for my hands, which are dry and cracked to bleeding because I'm in the kitchen a lot and washing pots and pans or dishes in hot water every day. I just can't get past the smell of it. It's so awfully strong and not exactly a feminine fragrance you would want to hit your husband's nose at the end of a work day, or any other time of day, for that matter. I think this is a guy's product, it was actually recommended to me by commercial fishermen, and I'm sure it's probably very effective for all those outdoorsmen, just not for ladies unless you have no sense of smell.

have used this for years!!!! It is very hard to find this locally. this time instead of running around to a store to try to find it, I decided to find it online, and went to ebay first. I found it at a good price including shipping. I ordered it. It was easy! no hassle of running around. Delivery was quick. I am going to order it regularly online now.

We have used this product for over 30 years for numerous cuts, abrasions, etc. It is a must in our house for sore noses when you have a cold! Helps with the soreness and a lot less peeling! Also, great for splinters that can't easily be pulled out. Just apply this ointment and cover with a bandaid. This ointment helps to "draw out" the splinter for easier removal and also helps with soreness.

I have used this salve since I was a child, and I have found nothing better for cuts, scrapes, and minor burns. One tin will last a long time, and I always order extras, because family members keep wanting to take mine. This salve should be in every first aid kit, because it is great stuff.
