I purchased this because the plastic connector broke. I guess I can understand that they do this on purpose to keep someone from catching on it an being maimed. Nonetheless, it breaks, whereas a metal one would last forever. That being said, the replacement was easy and will last at least as long as the original. This flag gets more use than most. The "better" is that the o-ring is rubberized rather than hard plastic and feels smoother in operation.

NOT universal. Its plastic clip piece is WAY too big for most holes, 7/16 inch drill bit needed. Would be so easy for it to be smaller, or at least put the dimensions of the hole on it (pic of back of package would have been fine). Now I have to either eat the loss or find a way to drill the hole bigger.

The flimsy plastic flag mounting bracket that came with my Gibraltar mail box broke, so I replaced it with this. This one is larger and more sturdily built. One installation suggestion: if you buy this and need to drill a hole for the anchor, take care when installing it to get the angle of hole you drill for the anchor point correct. It's about 45 degrees. I drilled the hole slightly too high -- about 40 degrees -- so the flag goes beyond vertical when up, and does not come all the way down quite to horizontal when down. Functionally it's okay for me, but it's a bit annoying that didn't get it at quite the correct angle.

I like the Mailbox Flag. Unfortunately, this model flag is the wrong model for my [older] mailbox. It would involve drilling an additional hole in the box to accommodate this particular model flag. I am still waiting for the arrival of the correct model for my mailbox, and am holding onto this model in case the correct model does not materialize.
