Fun Overall, but with Accuracy Issues
With all of the 1/35 Tiger I kits on the market, one with a full interior used to be rare when Academy released this kit in 1996. Now there are at least three or four (Rye Field Model) with complete interiors as well. However, they can also be priced out of range for the casual modeler, but the Academy kit is cheaper and that doesn't mean it's an inferior choice. However, it does suffer some accuracy issues if you want to build a correct representation of the Tiger I. Listing a few, the turret isn't asymmetrical as it was on the real tank, the frontal plate (where the bow machine gun is located) isn't quite right for an Early Production Tiger I (The Early, Mid and Late production tags were done by modelers years ago to distinguish between the different tanks, not just the Tiger) and the mantlet (the armor where the 88mm gun sits) is only suitable for specific Tigers; they had a plethora of different types such as early, reinforced, with a rain shield over the gunner's scope and so on. Now, a disclaimer; even with the inaccuracies, the tank built right out of the box looks like a Tiger I and if the builder is happy with that and wants an interior, the Academy kit is perfect and reasonably priced as well (43-55 US Dollars). Adding aftermarket parts can add up to even more than the cost of the kit itself if the modeler goes all out; at least $100 USD or more unless they find some bargains while shopping. Resin parts will be the most expensive, but as said before, the kit is great out of the box and I rated it as Excellent even with inaccuracies because of the detail and relatively low price for such a kit.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not a Toy, but a work of art
The German Panzers are some of the deadliest tanks of WW II. This model is a great representation of the Engineering of the German people. The model is not for beginners and is more for the intermediate to regular modelers, meaning that it will present trouble to those who are not used to putting together a complex model. This one takes patience, a steady head, and a desire to make a work of art. But it is just a model, if that is your thinking then this is not a kit for you as it will test your limits, some depending upon when or where in the manufacturing process may need to be cleaned more then others, early kits and end kits need more cleaning with the mid range having less clean up this is do to the tool and dies of injection molds. Early ones need to be adjusted and late ones are just worn out. The model for myself was a dream come true, as I got a full interior without having to buy an after market kit. I rarely buy after market items unless its a metal barrel, because of the prices. A set of Fruil tracks for this Tiger would cost the same as the model itself. I can make plastic tracks look as good as metal ones (not bragging). So if you want a nice challenge and one awesome Panzer, then buy this kit. If you want an easier version buy a Tamiya kit (which are also good kits) which is an easier build and can be done in a weekend or two, this kit will easily take up to a month to build correctly and maybe more. 1/35 scale TIGER 1 with FULL interior.
Where do i start! Academy has produced an increadable amout of detail inside & out for this kit of the famous early Tiger tank. There are 18 tri colour spruces which barly fit into a large size box & excellent decals & photo etch. Its a complete interior everyting you wanted to know about how the tiger worked inside down to drivers instruments & even fuel tanks! I always wanted a full interior tiger & this is it & price is fantastic considering how much u get. Im 72 scale normally but this will be the highlight when finished. A magnificently detailed kit of the early version Tiger-I
Please note: I have not as yet built this kit. Having said that, I am well acquainted with the Tamiya and Dragon kits of this vehicle. By comparison, this kit is also a gem. A set of Photo Etched parts, a full interior including stowage and accessories, Gearbox and drivetrain. The tracks are individually cast to add depth and diversity to any diorama or static display.
