About the 1984 Nissan 200SX

The Nissan 200SX is a two-door compact sports coupe. It is a front-engine, front-wheel drive vehicle that is the sports version of the Nissan Sentra. Although the car seats five, it offers little in the way of storage space. It is designed for those who want a vehicle that handles similarly to a sports car but offers the suspension and seating of a sedan. Because of its two-door layout and limited trunk space, this car is best suited for individuals without children or as a second car for a family.

The baseline engine for the Nissan 200SX is a four-cylinder, 1.6-liter machine with 115 horsepower capability. However, in the 200SX SE-R models, this is improved to a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that can generate 140 horsepower. It is available with five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. It comes with two ventilated disc brakes and offers both driver and front passenger airbags. The Nissan 200SX has an estimated fuel economy of 29mpg/city and 39mpg/highway, though the 200SX SE-R models only achieve 23mpg/city and 31mpg/highway.

Nissan produced the 200SX from 1995 to 1998 for sale in the United States, though it first premiered in 1994. It was also sold in other parts of the world until 2000, often under the name Nissan Lucino, and another Nissan sports coupe was sold as the 200SX during the 1980s. A two-door version of the Nissan Sentra, it replaced both the Nissan Sentra coupe and the Nissan NX when it was introduced. It was assembled in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Among its features, the Nissan 200SX offers bucket seats, cruise control, and a four-speaker sound system. Anti-lock brakes are optional on SE and SR models, but not under the basic E model. The car also includes air conditioning, including ventilation and recirculation systems. Windshield wipers offer a fixed intermittent speed, and windows come tinted. Body mirrors are power-adjustable, and the fuel filler and trunk releases are mechanical. Cargo space on the 200SX is limited to 10.4 cubic feet, but the car does also offer a glove compartment and an open storage box in the floor console. Seating is cloth, and front seats offer head restraints, as do two of the rear seats. Seatbelts for front passenger and driver are three-point reel, as are passenger and driver side rear seatbelts. The middle seat features a lap seatbelt.

The Nissan 200SX appeared on the cover of Car and Driver in 1995. In 2010, it was announced that Nissan was considering launching a new version of the 200SX based on the Nissan 370Z chassis. However, this has proven to thus far be simply speculation ... View more
