About the Mazda RX-8

The Mazda RX-8 is a product of Mazda Motor Company. Like many Mazda vehicles, the RX-8 is a sports car designed for great performance. This car has been praised for its great handling and surprisingly spacious backseat. Consumers have been disappointed in the fuel economy of this car and the fact that it tends to consume a lot of oil. The Mazda RX-8 has done well in various markets and has achieved international recognition.

The RX-8 has a 1.3-liter rotary engine. The manual transmission models are capable of producing 232 horsepower, and the automatic transmission models produce 212 horsepower. One surprising feature for a vehicle in this class is that the Mazda RX-8 has four doors. The back seat can be accessed by the two rear suicide", or rear-hinged, doors. This sports car seats four people. It is rated for 16 city miles and 22 or 23 highway miles per gallon of fuel, depending on which transmission is equipped. The fuel tank holds 16.9 gallons. The RX-8 was designed as a successor to the RX-7 and is currently assembled in Hiroshima, Japan, and Pretoria, South Africa.

The Mazda RX-8 was released in 2003. Like all the previous RX models, the name was taken from the car's use of a rotary engine. Various models were released in North American, European, and Asian markets. In 2009, some structural changes were made to enhance performance and better the overall design. There have also been improvements made to the handling.

The 2011 Mazda RX-8 is available in three different trim levels: the RX-8 Sport, Grand Touring, and R3. The Sport and Grand Touring trims are available with either the manual or automatic transmission. The entry-level Sport is reasonably well-equipped with performance tires, cruise control, and a six-speaker stereo system. The Grand Touring adds additional features including: a Bose sound system, heated exterior mirrors, leather upholstery, and Bluetooth. The R3 is the enhanced performance model and comes with the automatic transmission. It also has a few extras, such as Recaro sports seats and a rear wing spoiler.

This sports car has earned recognition in several international markets. In 2005, Fleet magazine named the RX-8 "Best Sporting Car". CNN Money also named it "Best Sports Car" in 2004. In this same year, the RX-8 won the Golden Clay Trophy for Japanese Car Design. It was also entered into Japan's Automobile Hall of Fame. Despite its poor fuel economy, the Mazda RX-8 is known for providing great handling and having an appealing design. ... View more
