Great, solid, heavy wide-angle and bright lens for my D5100.
First off, the impression is that this lens is big and heavy. It also feels great, durable, well built, solid, it's not your average zoom kit. The rings are nice and buttery smooth (I mean REALLY smooth). It comes with the hood already put on, but no bag. The lens cap is also bulky. When attached to my D5100, it instantly worked without a hitch. It focuses OK, as fast as any other lens I got, and it is a little bit on the noisy side, but it's allright. The balance is a bit on the front, but I´m allright with this because I use the Tammy 17-50 2.8 II all the time, which is also heavy (although not as heavy as this Tokina). And on to the images... they are beautiful, colorful, sharp even wide open, bright, everything that I expected. The 16,5-24 mm equivalent is really nice, I'm still getting to use it, but is so funny and useful. I've been craving for this one a long time, ever since it didn't exist. Many times I needed more angle than the Tammy could reach. When I learnt that Tokina put an AF motor inside the 116 I knew I wanted one. A few years later I got mine and I can tell that the waiting is very, very well rewarded. I can't tell if, as many reviewers said, this Mark II insn't so sharp as the first one. If so, the Mark I is a hell of a lens. But I really can tell that this one DELIVERS. I have yet to test it with night skies and landscapes, but indoors (for large group shots) look gorgeous, the rooms look enormous, even Full HD video looks great, it seems not to need any stabilization. I can't wait to be on the road to bring this beast with me. The bright aperture aids the aging sensor of my D5100 for no flash shots (I do not use flash, I love natural or ambient light). I also want to test it in my brother's D5600 with the bigger and better sensor. A great, great addition to my bag. I'm loving it, and hope it lasts many years. It IS heavy, but if you need the wider angle and the brightness like me, you WILL love it.

Exactly what I hoped for
The lens is great, the build quality does not feel cheap and will last a long time as long as you're not intentionally beating it. The image at high apertures is really sharp but there is a lot of distortion and aberration when shooting wide open and at 11 mm. The focusing speed is quite fast but not good enough for sports or fast moving objects, the focusing motor is also really loud but gets the job done. The price is pretty expensive for a wide angle lens and a third party company but I think it was well worth it.

The best ultrawide angle lens for DX format
This is a beautiful lens! Used on my Nikon D7100, it produces breathtaking images! I got the lens, just in time to shoot fall colors and the results were truly awesome. Edge-to-edge sharpness that is the equal to Nikon's best and at a far more reasonable price! I also shot some sunrise scenics with it and the way it captures the subtle, delicate colors of morning is beautiful to behold. Tokina built a masterpiece with this one. I also found out, while goofing around with it, that the 16mm setting will work with my Nikon D600. It's a heavy lens, but very well built and focuses very quickly. This lens is a keeper! I would say this lens is the best value out there in ultrawide angle lenses!

Awesome lens! I got the DX II because it has an internal focusing motor for my Nikon D3200 and it works perfectly with it. The f2.8 gives me options I never had before and does well in low light. One really cool feature is the sliding focus ring that allows you to override what the camera thinks is in focus. Excellent lens!
Great wide angle lense for the money
