If you played High School Football this book will bring back memories both good and bad. Though doubtful that your coach was as maniacal as Paul Bryant, there are parts of the Bear in most coaches. Bryant came to Texas A&M wanting to make a bigger name for himself, and it worked. He turned a losing program into a winner, and parlayed that into the Coaching position at Alabama where he carved his legacy. But this story is about "Whether the end ... justifies the means?" Bryant takes his first team to a torturous preseason camp at "The Junction" where only 35 out of 115 survive the ten days in Hell. No water breaks in a desert climate and a "You have to play hurt" mentality are the staples of Bryant's philosophy. His first team only wins one game, but two years later they only lose one game and are competing for the National Championship. The players who survived Bryant's Junction Camp mostly swear by him as a "Molder of Men'. Those who fled his tryanny consider him an egomaniac who came frightening close to causing a player's death due to heat stroke. You decide for yourself ...
