Super Mario Bros. Movie - Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo
I enjoy sci-fi fantasy and comics so decided to collect movies following these themes. Usually, if there are sequels, I limit myself to the original unless the sequels are outstanding. Some of my favourites include Dune, Storm Troopers, Dick Tracy, Fifth Element and Tank Girl. Those films with a lot of horror or graphic violence, such as Alien, are usually not in my collection. One of my favourite movies, and one very rarely shown on television,is Super Mario Bros. I just finished watching this movie and it put me right back in the game; great sound effects. The lead actors worked well together and were totally believable as the "brothers". Princess Daisy was sweet yet tough. All in all an otherwise dreary Monday night was saved by Luigi Mario and Mario Mario, the Super Mario Bros. Getting lost in a movie for the sake of being carefree is a luxury many of us have forgotten how to do but we could sure benefit from doing just that. S-o-o-o I guess it's time to dust off the old grey Nintendo box and settle in for a few hours of saving Princess Daisy (before I hit rewind on the DVD player and settle in for the second viewing).
It's a me, Mario Mario
Only true fans of the franchise can appreciate this odd gem. Those of you not familiar with this title, it is based on the popular video game series "Super Mario Bros." But don't think just because you know the games, you know what to expect with this movie... I see this movie as a nod to another great sci-fi title "The Fifth Element" The settings are different, the characters have a different flavor to them. When this movie first came out it was deemed a failure. But to me it seems like the odd mid-90's culture aged like wine. If you love Nintendo, and their games, give this movie a shot. You never know, you might have a taste for the strange and corny.
No cartoon, Real actors portraying serious roles with a diff. plot...
Great movie for anyone that's into Mario and Nintendo. Nothing like the cartoon you may have watched, this is a real world view of a plausible scenario incorperating the characters. This movie is done as a mild comedy but has a great plot that's out of this world. Two plumbers get caught up in King koupas evil plot to merge his "dino" dimension with our Earth world. They follow the innocent Princess to the alter dimension and dodge gumbas along the way. The movie has great action, humerous character references and comes back 360 degrease to make you love the mario world all over again.
Super Mario Bros. (DVD, 2003)
A story about two hard working Italian plumber brothers named Mario Mario and Luigi Mario, who befriends a young paleontologist named Daisy. She uncovers a massive find of mysterious new dinosaur bones. While exploring the tunnels where dinosaur fossils lay, saboteurs hired by the Mario Bros. rival businessman, Anthony Scapelli, to break some underground pipes. Meanwhile, in a hidden world called Dino-world, King Koopa's land is running out of water and going through problems so he sends Spike and Iggy to kidnap Daisy! Now the Super Mario Bros. find themselves the only hope to save the Earth from invasion then challenge a diabolical lizard king and they must battle giant reptilian goombas, outwit misfit thugs and undermine sinister scheme by taking over the world. A classic game adapted to a fantasy reality that parallels, is simply brilliant. The rendition of koopa-manhattan is great. The city adds life to this movie, it makes it real in it's own fantastic way. If you love the games and have an open minded imagination, this is a must watch movie.
Super Mario Bros. (2003, DVD)
Super Mario Bros. is a movie based loosely on the popular videogame series. While the names and general stories are the same, you won't find Mario or Luigi squashing any goombas by jumping on their heads. The story follows Mario and Luigi as their ordinary day of plumbing in Brooklyn becomes wrapped up and a plot by the evil King Koopa to merge his world, which was split from the normal world after a meteor hit, with the normal world that we all know. The normal everyday plumbers then go on a crazy adventure through Koopa's world to save the Princess and thwart Koopa's plot. I thought this movie was good and enjoyable, and if you have a few bucks laying around on a rainy day, you won't be disappointed for picking it up.
