It is just a simple way to attach any hard drive to my PC via USB and retrieve files from my dead laptops and PC's and then erase and use them for extra storage. So far I have been able to retrieve many, many family pics and other personal data that I thought was lost forever. I repeat it's simple and easy to use and my PC will open the hard drives immediately. I love this thing.

I like these kind of devices to connect hard drives to computers, but i had the misfortune of being sent one that didn't work. I have used these for many years, and they are fantastic. But this one that i was sent happen to be a bad one... i was able to use a part of an old one to get done what i needed to do. So it turned out OK for me...The old one was missing a different part that i could not find anywhere... so between the two of them i had one good working device...I do recommend these devices to hook a hard drive to your computer...

I used this adapter to retrieve data off of a couple of old hard drives, including the hard drive of a computer that died on me last year. I was easy to figure out how to pull this adapter into the device, but THE ADAPTER DOES NOT COME WITH ITS OWN POWER CORD. Luckily, I was able to plug the drives into the power box in the dead computer, since the power box is new. I had hoped that it was only the old power box that went out, but I think the motherboard also got fried. Properly powered, I was able to retrieve all my old valuable files from those two drives, and now I am much happier! In summary, yes. This product works just fine. If you need to connect to the older styled hard drives, make sure you have a way to power it though.

The connector worked like a charm. I was able to recover data that I thought I had lost. Previously one had to go to a tech outfit to have that done, and at a cost. I was surprised to see that this type of equipment was available to the consumer, and very reasonably priced.

I've plugged this into a number of devices and it works really well. It stays connected for the full 3 hours or so it takes to clone a hard drive provided you take care not to bump it. If you do disconnect it while cloning, the cloning program is likely to fail - rotten piece of programming, not the fault of the cable.) A similar cable costs $40 at our local electronics big box store.
