Brings back memories of the Mid 1960's & early 1970's during the height of the Viet Nam War Era! This was Considered an "Under Ground" Album, because of the Lyrics about Vice Pres. Spiro T. Agnew, the Green Berets and the Sinking of the Titanic, which there were many survivors alive at the time and still much pain for them & the Families who lost Loved ones. I bought this album when it had come out, loaned it out to a friend & never got it back. More than 30 years later I bought this one & still love it! I also found a good used CD of it (which I didn't know existed)! Great stuff! Much better than Arlo!! You'll enjoy it whether Straight, Drunk or Stoned!

The highlight of this CD is the comedic song-story 'Legend of the U.S.S. Titanic'; around a quarter of an hour's worth of pure hilarity. I remembered hearing this back in college and laughing so hard it was almost painful, so I hunted around until at last I found it here on Ebay. Listening to Brockett's wacky version of the events leading up to the infamous sinking again was well worth the time and expense, it's just as funny to me at 41 as it was at 21- I've been reunited with an old friend. Brockett is a master story teller and the frantic pace of the foot stomping score is as much fun as the tale. About the time the captain is passed out cold on the wheelhouse floor you will have decided that as soon as it ends you'll start it again immediately! If you are the prudey churchy type you won't be amused, just walk away- but if you think hippies have more fun then for goodness sake order this CD TODAY! You don't need 128 and a half feet of rope to enjoy it, but it wouldn't hurt either. Have fun diggin' the icebegrs!Read full review
I have recently been picking up those old songs from my youth that have somehow dissappeared from my collection. I never had this on vynil but wore out an 8 track copy. When I started searching for this song, I could only remember the one line, "around the wheelhouse". Thanks to the internet, I wasn't 5 minutes coming up with the song, lyrics, atrist and then the actual disc! (Thanks to Ebay!)ITunes has never heard of it, but that's OK, I'll soon have the whole disc! Also bought Alices Restaurant, Fishheads and Manassas! Life is good! Bruce
In The Legend of the USS Titanic, the Titanic is a metaphor for the USA. Note: it's the "USS" Titanic. The actual Titanic was the RMS Titianic. They (the USA) wouldn't let Jack Johnson on board because he was the "wrong color". The USS Titanic is loaded full of the self-centered, the misdirected, the mindlessly dedicated, the unconscious, the oblivious, the stoned, and by their indifference...the racist. And it goes "right on down". Just a little 60's radical dream about what was in store for the good 'ol USA.
Jamie Brockett is a folk singer, this CD contains the Counter culture song "Legend of the USS Titanic". The song attributes the cause of the sinking of the Titanic to the Captains 1st use of Marijuana. It is more of a story than a song, kind of like Alice's Resteraunt, and worth the price of the CD alone. I highly recommend the CD, Very funny!
