Works great for my purposes. I added a 4 Gb SD card loaded with Debian, modified the boot sequence and installed the Pi-Hole software to do ad filtering on my network. Much cheaper than using a Raspberry Pi and just as easy to set up.

They work as advertised but are an item that exposed my system to an open connection I did not with to have. Its offline and will not be used again. Mostly sold to attract customers for online cloud. I simply bought a WD My cloud that is much less of a problem. Now have 3 of them (WD My Cloud) and would not ever use online backup ever! In home is to easy and flawless. Great to hack however!

This product is a very EASY and SIMPLE to use device. Literally log onto www.pogoplug.com create account, activate device (after plugging it into a power supply, router or switch, and adding either a usb hard drive, sd memory card or both. Pros: free cloud storage after initial purchases (device, storage) works anywhere there is internet (wi-fi or cellular) Cons: if the power goes out on your home or internet goes out in your home, no access until restored This product is in its own class comoared to other cloud providers; you can add more services (unlimited cloud storage for minimal $ per month, add more devices, add devices at different locations (parents house, office, home, froends house etc), and the different hardware models allow different options - some have DLNA support, some have sd card support, some have multiple USB support (2.0, 3.0 etc)Read full review
Even if you want to use it as a network drive, you have to register on Pogoplug's website and go through them to access it. This, of course, means that if you do not have internet access, it is useless. I suppose it would be useful to access when you are not at home for maybe music files or something else you may like to get access to that you wouldn't normally have on you.

The company is dead so if you plug it in it it won’t get initialized. The only thing to do is crack the case to get at the serial pins.i managed to desolder the Rex and tx pins but not the ground. With one hand holding the ground pin of the usb-til connector I telneted in and changed the /etc/I init.d/rcS to start the telnet daemon. All of this is documented on the internet though a lot of the links are now dead. Upon loading Debian there is a lot this little guy can do. Dump1090 to track planes,rtl_433 to get 433mhz device readings, etc. it does not have the Cajones to run rtlamr to read a power meter though.
